Bret obviously wasn't going to take the belt to WCW he knew better, he wanted to drop it the next night on RAW and go out on good terms with the company. Vince however was so paranoid about the WWF title going to WCW after the Alundra Blaze incident he was insistent on taking the belt from Bret. In some ways Shawn was the wrong guy to do the screw job cause Shawn already had heat the Bret prior the incident, that was a stupid move by Vince choosing Shawn. The ironic thing it was Russo's idea, he just randomly throw it out there as an idea thinking McMahon wasn't gonna even consider it. Lets be real here Bret was stubborn about dropping the belt to Shawn for obvious reasons and he kept shutting down Russo's and Cornette's ideas during their meeting with McMahon. I'm sure the boss was desperate for anything to get that belt off Bret.

Well it's a tricky situation. Bret said he has 30 day reasonable creative control in his contract, Vince was threatened by WCW financially and for signing many established wrestlers even though he assisted in Bret's contract negotiations with WCW. Bret and Shawn took many personal jabs and physical jabs.... and my analysis is..... They were all being jerks some being more jerkier than others

i was there when it happened, 15 years old, watching one of my all time favorite wrestler's at getting seemingly fucked over. it was weird cause even the energy of crowd shifted from what i recall and it didn't feel like a wrestling event anymore, it took a serious turn into business

Here’s the bottom line, Bret was an employee, so was Shawn & Undertaker. Vince’s the boss. So employee needs to listen to their employer.

Taker’s memory sucks. Bret wasn’t going to WCW the next night because he was still under contract to WWF until the end of that month, which is why he didn’t debut in WCW until December 1997.

bischoff said he wouldnt use the wwe belt because he simply couldnt. the belt was a property of the wwf and he vince would sue wcw if he used it on television.

Last I heard Bret still had a week or two left on his contract after Montreal. He wasn't going to show up on Nitro the next night with the belt. And even if he was out the door after that event -- he's still there. Just collect the belt from him on his way out the door. Say on Raw he was let go after last night's debacle or something, wish him well on his future endeavors. Have a tournament for the title.

I don’t see why they say “you can’t let the title go to wcw” why couldn’t they just allow Bret to win it let him go and keep the actual title? On Monday night raw have a title shot for the vacant title left by the champion who is no longer with the company for personal reasons?

Bret didn’t just spit on Vince I think that spit was guided by god because it literally landed PERFECT in Vince’s eye. That’s when everyone knew how real this shit was

Hart is mad as if he got robbed of an actual trophy for an actual competition. Had he not gotten "screwed", it still would have been a staged match with the outcome decided by a room of writers. The outcome was going to be fraudulent regardless of who won or loss. It's like he tricked himself into thinking WWF was real. Like everyone has tricked themselves. Writers determine the winners and they determined the winner, just like they always do. It's just so weird because wrestling is like... the ref might get hit in the head with a chair and now a fake ref comes out and does the count and that's an "official" match. How do you get robbed of a victory in something that fake?

The iron man match was abysmal and made a mockery of the concept. It's easily and by far the worst televised match Bret and Shawn ever had together.
