Maynard Furgeson used a Jet Tone mouthpiece & that helped his high range. I was fotunate to see him in concert several times when I wad in high school. The Jet Tone mouthpieces were terrible.
ОтветитьAYO NEW INTRO????
ОтветитьIt’s so impressive that you go to such great lengths, Sam, to share such in-depth trumpeting information! 🤗
ОтветитьYou weren't kidding when you said quite a collection
ОтветитьMy man really played a Mahler excerpt on a Maynard Ferguson toy
ОтветитьVery interesting and well made video. The depth of research you went to was greatly appreciated. I hope you make more of these videos!
ОтветитьQuality video.
ОтветитьThis is an amazing review, Sam! Great job 👏
ОтветитьI wouldn't be able to play above high c on it do to how small it is lol.
ОтветитьAs a trumpet geek with the same name I automatically like this video, but as a small mouthpiece player, I feel like this is throwing a little bit more shade at the name Jet-tone than it deserves.
1) there are 3 manufacturing “eras” of Jettones. The two “good” eras are the original bill Ratzenburger era of the 60s and 70s like Maynard played, which are coveted, and the most recent versions which are now produced by Schilke.
The mouthpiece in this video is neither of those, at some point in the 80s, jettone changed hands similar to the benge buyout by umi. All they kept was the name and changed most if not all of Bills original designs, this era is considered the worst era for the brand and strongly avoided by most everyone whether you play small or large pieces.
2)regarding the design of the pieces during this particular era, a lot of of them feature this low alpha angle rim because someone thought it would help the I.D. on the rim feel a little bigger than it is, it kinda helps in that aspect but because of that it causes other lip problems if you’re not used to a rim slanted inwards.
3) you play really big mouthpieces dude, like if your regular size was like Bach 5 or maybe even a 3 depending on the era, that’s one thing but you play a 1 1/4. It feels a little bit like a giving a chauffeur a rally car and asking for a review.
Moral of the story, this is a bad mouthpiece, but that does not make jettone a bad name to consider. I own one of the new bill chase model jettones and to me it’s fantastic and much for open compared to a schilke 6a4a which is roughly the same size.
i’m a high school screamer. i currently use a kelly screamer to play high. what mouthpiece would you recommend for the higher notes?
ОтветитьVery nice. Likely losing the flexibility due to the flat rim and the small diameter. Haven’t met a lot of folks that can produce a full sound on these guys unless they have small lips.
ОтветитьVery nice video!
Though I wonder how that mouthpiece compares to a Kelly Screamer, as they look almost identical in shape.
In my younger days I played an Al hirt A Jettone. Almost no cup depth. But I loved it then. Played in a band at the disco and it smoked!!!
ОтветитьA Bach 3MV Commercial appeared in my mailbox two days ago. It's as shallow as that Jet-Tone but sounds much fuller. It's similar to my 3E but is far less raspy in the low register. It gives me a Rafael Mendez (20th Century Mexican phenom) type of sound. A very comfy rim.
ОтветитьHi Samuel what kind of mouthpiece is this
ОтветитьI play on one of these all the time
ОтветитьThe 10s is NOT part of the original Jet-Tone line-up created by Ray Amado or his business partner Bill Ratzenberger. The original stock Jet-Tone's were pretty good pieces and Ray could make a KILLER custom piece like he did for cats like Doc, Snooky Young, Bill Chase and Charlie Shavers. The pieces Chase and Snooky played were smaller than anything in the stock line. What was smart about them was that you had a choice of 4 different rim contours...the A rim was flat, the B rim was semi-flat like the Schilke 4 rim, the C rim was round like the Schilke 2 rim, and the D rim was narrow, like a Bach 7 rim...there was 1 backbore reamer for ALL models, which was in between a Schilke a/b backbore or Warburton 3, tight but not stuffy tight.
Ответитьagreed 100%. This is exactly the point. We are all different
ОтветитьThanks for watching, everybody! My apologies for the shaky playing—one does not simply decide to pick up a mouthpiece like this on a whim!
