The rule of thumb I was taught in astronomy was strange phenomena is usually the outcome of a prior impact. One of the ways that I have heard Irregular Galaxies explained away is they are remains from the merger of two other galaxies. If that is the case one of the reasons we may not see their super massive black holes is because the stars have chaotic obits and obscure the view of the new larger black hole so we can't see it feed.

Because we can only observe black holes indirectly there is no real way to date them. I get the impression that we will need a better model of the big bang to know for certain but it looks like black holes mark seed points in the early universe with a high density of gravitons. The clumpy distribution of galaxies suggests that the big bang was not a smooth event. Problem is there are allot of young galaxies, so I doubt all super massive black holes formed during the same big bang epoch.

Exactly, it is a singularity that expanded. The newer model also suggest that black holes give rise to daughter universes of similar physics of our universe and other possible universes that exist simultaneously do not necessarily support physics as we know it nor life.
