Nice bro
ОтветитьI'm Indian bro
ОтветитьApologies for the re-upload! There was a strange sound within one of the playing clips. We hope you enjoy the video!! Ps. We're creating swathes of new content, let us know what you'd like to see more of!
ОтветитьThen I'll repeat myself. Conn is a great instrument, alto and tenor, it is much higher than the common instruments. This is real wine. P Mauriat is a beer-wine made from powder, comparison is meaningless. Modern instruments have no soul. There are so many technologies available now, but the sound of modern saxophones upsets me. How do manufacturers manage to make such bad-sounding instruments? I don't understand. This is art, only on the contrary.
Ответить10M breaks through more than the 66 which has a bit more sub toning going on. Lovely tone from both nonetheless.
ОтветитьMy mind always goes to thing thought: why did saxophonists prefer vintage instruments? Because they were new and groundbreaking at the time
ОтветитьI know I'm not in the room, but I don't think the two horns sounded a like at all.
ОтветитьWhy are your fingers flying so far away from the keys when you release them! Bad technique, that should never have been allowed to develop this far. This mistake was ironed out of me before I even learned C Major. This reflects badly on your store.
ОтветитьW
hat mouthpiece is he playing on?
I am biased as I have owned a 66R UL for 7 years after I played one owned by a pro friend. To me, it is the best sax I have owned. It plays superbly and sounds even better!
I agree with one of the other comments that the two horns in the video don’t sound anywhere near similar.
I played the same Mk VI for over 45 years. Last year, after shopping an comparing for several months, bought a Mauriat 76 tenor. What all of these comparison videos boil down to is; personal preference. To say one horn is “better” than another with respect to sound is in reality your personal preference based on previous exposure to listening and choosing or deciding what you like. Past that, how does the horn feel under your fingers and is the resistance to your liking. I’m a huge fan of older saxes. I have 4 older than 1960 and one from the 30’s. That said, I just love the way my Mauriat feels when I play it. One of my students though, prefers the sound of my VI. You my prefer one over another, but that doesn’t translate into one horn better than another. Which I suppose is a distinction without a difference.
ОтветитьWhat opening and chamber on that Lawton.
ОтветитьNice video! I prefer the 10m sound but the P. Mauriat sounds good was well. This is a great service that your company does providing examples of saxes that are new and old. It’s a shame that there are people that cannot just focus on that.
ОтветитьMauriats are built and finished like crap.
ОтветитьI wish I lived in London
ОтветитьWell done! It would be nice to know which flavor of the Lawton mouthpiece ( I assume it is a Lawton) you are playing. In my experience many vintage tenors and altos tend to respond better to a large or very large chamber mouthpiece, while modern horns seem to prefer medium to small chamber in order to really sign. From this clip the 10M seems to offer a bit more flexibility in its color palette that the Mauriat. Both great sounding horns with different personalities.
ОтветитьThe flag on his shirt in the thumbnail was a great touch.
ОтветитьOMG I really want to try them both
ОтветитьI’d love to go there and get a sax one day. My mouth is watering looking at that place!
ОтветитьHonestly, I think the 66r sounded better!
ОтветитьIs conn 10m is for sale now ?
Ответитьis the mauriat a good brand
ОтветитьI started on a Conn 10m Tenor, after stepping up from a used student model Yamaha Alto, when I was in 7th grade. My dad bought the 10m for me because he got a really good deal on it ($650 in playing condition because the owner wanted to make a quick sale), and I absolutely fell in love with the Conn and was a lover of vintage saxophones.
Fast forward about a decade, and I wanted try something different with that classic “Conn” sound…And bought my very first new horn, a P. Mauriat 66….and I have zero regrets in the investment of that horn! It’s definitely my go to horn these days.
Great comparison video, and don’t knock it until you try it!
Never played a mauriat I like. They seem incredibly dead sounding with no sizzle or core at all. Cant compete with Yamaha or Yani or the Comm 10M. But its Taiwanese so I would not expect nothing else.
ОтветитьI’m sorry, but I have to disagree. I’ve played both a conn 10M and a 66, and the conn had a much bigger sound. It was much more vibrant and powerful and yet had a really nice dark side to it. But the 66 is powerful and vibrant, but it’s much more balanced in its tonality and spectrum of sound. I like both, but I’d pick the conn
ОтветитьMauriat has a darker tone, Conn 10M more bright. But I see when you push it the Mauriat becomes more bright. Both great horns. Have the 66R myself. Many thanks for the video!
ОтветитьI have a Conn 6M from 1939, with silver plate and gold bell. I still play it because it's the best sounding alto I've ever played, even those who are big on their Mark VI's comment about it. It sings
ОтветитьThe Mauriat sounds dull compared to the 10m.
ОтветитьThe French sound is nice, and sounds “jazzier” I guess, but I will always prefer vintage American horns. My alto is a cobb nw2, and I’m looking for a similar tenor, because that tone is just so nice
ОтветитьI’d love to get my hands on one of those. Not only a sax with great intonation and overall sound. But the lacquer and engraving is just beautiful . I play on a Yamaha 61 Right now and I’m saving up for a Mauriat 66
Ответитьi just bought a 10m it was such a dog. played like crap had to sell it
