I just purchased a Larson's Platinum storm door with the low-E glass. My house faces south here in Texas. After watching this you are making me wonder just how hot it's going to get in between my doors now. I installed a Larson's Tradewinds door with a pet door a couple months ago on the back and like it. We liked how much stronger this Platinum door feels with the security glass. They had a sale on at the time making it a little cheaper than the Tradewinds. Now I'm going to watch the heat buildup on my front door. I've been enjoying your videos. Thanks.

I had a Larson Platinum door installed with low-E glass. What a nightmare! Our house in Colorado faces south and the door got so hot, it would burn your hand. Even during winter, it was so hot our Christmas wreath actually melted. The door expanded so much I couldn't open my front door. Just today, I put in the full screen - but this is not what we wanted. Is there a good way to vent a full glass door?

I have a Pella Low E Full View. My door faces toward the south so I thought I'd be ok. I really regret not buying the roll screen model without Low E. Since it's a full view then it has a full screen. This is fine for air but when it rains my front door gets soaked. I haven't had any of the issues other Pella owners reported. It's been a good storm door except for the extreme heat during the winter months and the rain. I will likely be changing it very soon for the Larsen Platinum.

What about Low-E glass causing reflections that can burn siding or other things?

Sadly, I got a Pella storm door installed because the regular door was letting a small amount of water in. I regret it because of the extreme heat where I live and because it is also a west-facing door with no shade. I tinted it with reflective tint and it also is low e glass. It has helped, as in doesn’t get quite as burning hot, but still not good.

I also removed the bottom door sweep in hopes that the hot air may escape, but in theory, would this actually be helping or letting more hot air in? Rain won’t get in because it was simply dripping from the top of the door, making its way down. The slight gap isn’t an issue, but I wonder if having it is even helpful. Any thoughts? Thanks

What about the double pane argon gas filled on the Anderson storm doors? I like the idea of the double pane but it only comes with WITH low E. Is the double pane worth it? I face the North so not much Sun but do get north winds. I live in N Texas.

Thank you for this video. I took over my parents' house and so much is confusing to me. The front door faces west and the inner metal has always been so hot in summer. I saw you recommended the Larson Tradewinds model to another commenter. Does the tempered glass option do any better than the low-E? I would love a full length glass door, most everyone on the street has a full length, but this video has made me question if I should rethink this.

I wish I had seen a video like this 5 years ago. My 3 Larson doors with E glass all have a rainbow mold looking effect going on. Larson won't do anything about it other than tell me to buy new glass.

LOW E glass is great for Winters because it keeps heat in and cold out. It's not just to keep out the heat.

Tinted windows are not energy efficient in Winters. 😂

Thanks for the tip about factory coatings being hard to clean. My main concern is cutting glare. What what would you recommend for that?
