Most flugelhorn mouthpieces are way too deep for me. I guess I'm in the minority, but I'd rather have range than extreme warmth. I have a Curry 6FLM (medium-shallow) that lets me play easily above the staff - and it doesn't sound like a trumpet (maybe a mellow cornet, but that's fine).
