ОтветитьSurprised this one never made it into a Sopranos episode. Or did it? It has all the criteria: Old-time rock and roll, sung by Italian guys from NJ.

Ответить"Harry Venuta" - real name Harold DeVenuta - the drummer on "Darling Lorraine", was my cousin. An army vet, he passed away some years ago sadly....
ОтветитьOf course, you all know that the hit single faded before the rather rough harmony ending. It was originally issued with the cold end, but someone objected and it was 'fixed'.

Ответитьlove that opening, then melding with first tenor, then with group harmony. a side full of soul.
ОтветитьIt's been a long time since listened to this song and 64 years since I heard it live at Mountain Lakes Inn, Greenwood Lake, NY. They used to draw a great crowd and Sunday afternoons were best.. When Pierre LaSalle joined the group, Mt. Lakes got raided because someone squealed on Pierre being under age and Mt.Lakes lost its Liquor License for several month. I was in the Navy at the time and drove up to Greenwood Lake every weekend from Philly with couple friend go boating in the afternoon, find dates and go to the Inn in the evening. We had the best of times!!!
ОтветитьIm 85 and still rocking I used to the knock outs on saturday at Luciano's in Lodi NJ. Love the group
ОтветитьIf you wanna know what happens next in this story check out Paul Simon’s song Darling Lorraine. He wrote it as a kind of unofficial sequel to this song that tells the story of the rest of their relationship. It’s got a very different sound but is well worth hearing as well.
