I atill remember the first time one of these went past me on a motorway here in the UK.
I didn't know it at the time, but Saab make jet aeroplanes. The 900 turbo sounded like a jet going past and it looked like one compared to my 1962 Mini Cooper.
I developed a fascination with Saab cars at that point and I always promised myself that I'd own a brand new one some day.
I never got the chance to own a new one, but I did own a second hand Saab 9-3 Griffin. It was a very good car compared to anything else I had owned at the time, better than the non M Series BMW 3 Series I had.

I saw a Saab 900 16s at a petrol station years ago. It looked like a weird mashup of a Ford Escort, Ford Capri, and a Mercedes Benz 190E. Unusual, but oddly attractive.

"How is it that Tesla could be worth so much?" Overvalued due to falsely promoted "carbon credits" that other car companies are forced to pay into Tesla, misled investors who keep dumping money into the company falsely believing that "electric cars are the future". News flash folks: ICE vehicles will be the majority for the next 50 years. The reasons can be listed alphabetically. Wake up.

I bought a Saab 900 Carlsson new in 1993 and at the time with the car having 204bhp and 201 lb-ft it was one of the fastest 2 door family cars you could buy. I still own the car and have really looked after it. I have it serviced every year regardless of mileage and if anything does need doing on the car it's done straight away regardless of cost or anything else. I have owned the car coming up 32 years and in that time it has never let me down not once. The car now has 42,000 original miles on the clock backed up by a full and comprehensive Saab service history. I have owned many other cars and trucks over the past 32 years but none of them drive or make me feel anything like my 900 Carlsson and when the time comes that I can no longer drive then it will be passed to my son who thankfully is just as passionate about the car as I am!!!

I bought a 1988 900 turbo convertible with 100,000km on it, then put 200,000km on it in the next 10 years. Tyres and regular servicing - it never broke down. Oh, I had to repair the leather on the front seats in 2012 as it had cracked with age. That was it. I would have a coupe over the convertible if given a choice, but would have another pre-GM Saab again in a heartbeat.

We had a SAAB 93 turbo diesel sports wagon (estate) as the family car for 6 years, it had more airbags than you could imagine..which was good as the wife would hit 135mph on the M6 motorway .

We still miss the feeling of safety, and mad cap Swedish thinking

Am I the only one who thinks the steering ratio looks more like a 60s pickup truck than a sports car in the driving vid? 😳

It does look like a cool car to own, but restoring one to that condition wouldn’t be cheap (and there’s plenty of cars I’d rather spend the $$$ on.)

Also the “designed by fighter plane engineers” thing is EXTREMELY over-exaggerated. Different divisions, different places, different people.

Its half the reason I love these cars.

Slapping a turbo on a 4-banger to give it a confidently wide and flat torque band for all the speeds the car might be driven at--especially around town--is DEFINITELY a formula that Honda nailed for the L-series that's in my FK7 Civic. My car is SO FUN to commute, and I don't even have to go that fast, but it makes peak torque for 58% of its usable rev band. 😁
