Some of the backstory of Imran Khan's path to electoral victory and govt in 2018 needs correction. Imran Khan came to power in an election rigged in his favour by the Pakistani military. It was almost 2 years after his coming to power that he fell out with the Army Chief Gen Bajwa, who'd actually brought him to power, over matters of governance and foreign policy. The US had no problem with Khan till Trump was President. After Trump, as the Biden admin started taking down Trump allies all around the world, relations of the US frosted with Pakistan as well. Then as Khan celebrated the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and started building a closer relationship with Putin, the US finally saw him as an adversary and decided to take him down, as it were.
