Lack of consensus is never a good sign of any idea.

Oh yes. There is that minor problem about there being zero evidence of the supernatural, or of supernatural causes intervening in nature.
You might want to sort that out before you start worrying about the 7 days.

Just sayin'.

Oh, and before you say an ancient religious text is enough evidence for the supernatural (which it isn't), you would have to explain why the Vedas or the Popul Vuh are not as equally legitimate as evidence.

The six day version of the Genesis myth makes a lot more sense when understood as a monotheistic reinterpretation of the Enuma Elish, replacing six generations of gods with six days of creation. 

The fact that the two genesis creation myths are so obviously contradictory shows that they were never meant to be literal accounts as we understand it today.
