I am the father of two daughters, one 39, her sister 33. We live in Melbourne Australia. Neither of my girls would EVER do something this stupid. I’m sorry, but that is what this is; meeting someone that you do not know, in thje wee hours of the morning, in a park? I’m a pretty solid ex-Rugby player (240lb) and I wouldn’t be doing anything like that! I know that we’re not supposed to ‘blame the victim’, but FFS! What the hell do people think? that meeting some random dude in the early hours (in a PARK FFS!) is not inherently DANGEROUS?
I have to say also, that when I heard that he’s from Nigeria, I was NOT surprised. Nigeria is NOTORIOUS for being a country where human life is seriously devalued, as well as one of the sources of scam e-mails since forever. The receipt of emails claiming to be from some prince or other, asking of you can help them obtain funds and offering to pay for you to be a part of the process is so well known that it’s now a trope.
You can see by his speech that this is a person who has absolutely no problem lying through his teeth. but in an almost childlike way. SO, now that I’ve probably triggered a whole bunch of people, in various ways, the fact is that anyone who agrees to meet someone that they are meeting for the first time, in a park, in the middle of the night is sadly not likely going to live to talk about it. I really cannot believe this girl was so foolish.
She travelled through Europe on her own and came back safely, but Europeans would be HORRIFIED at such a thing! They wouldn’t allow their own daughters to do that!
Interestingly, the place in the world that I have visited that felt the safest for me, is Eastern Europe, including Ukraine and Russia. I wouldn’t walk the streets at 2:00AM though! That said, I wouldn’t walk the streets of London at 2PM in some districts!
