I really love seeing when a console lives much longer than expected, especially since not everyone has the money to buy a new console right away, it makes me curious how much longer the Switch will last.

I think the biggest reason why Black and White 2 came out on DS is simply because Black and White came out on DS. As sequels they could reuse the game engine and lots of the assets that way which saved a lot of time. Releasing them as the first 3ds games would mean creating a whole new engine and 3d assets, and it might confuse some people.

I bought black and white when it came out and played it on my brothers 3DS lol

the ds was and still is one of the best handhelds ever. if they just made better high quality games, it literally would have been even better than it was. i still pick up games and play it all like it’s new. holds up.

While my brother had a 3DS with no games, I was playing White 2 on my OG DS model.

Pokemon BW2 are my favorite Pokemon games and probably in my top 3 games of all time. I haven’t had access to one of those games in years and I’ve been looking to buy a copy since 2020 but they’ve been so damn expensive… they sold incredibly well so I don’t know why the prices are hiked up so much. I got a copy for Pokemon X for like $20, and most of the other 3DS Pokemon games are super cheap as well. Make it make sense 😔

Remember the tsunami hit Japan back in 2011 so that did effect the 3ds launch.

Animal Crossing New Leaf and Pokemon XY, Luigis Mansion 2, that whole 2013-2015 range saved the 3DS from damnation.

I think putting Black and White 2 on the DS was a smart move by Game Freak. Black and White 1 sold about 15 million copies and a good amount of those people probably didn't own a 3DS during 2012. Even if they did happen to own a 3DS, you could still play Black and White 2 on that thanks to the 3DS' backwards compatibility while the people who still only owned the DS can still play the sequel to a DS game.

Nintendo Switch in 3-5 years will refuse to die as well mark my words. You don't just abandon 150 million consoles sold overnight.

truly a terrible take. Wow, what was nintendo doing in holiday 2011!?!?! They only released a new mario kart and a new 3d mario platformer for 3DS! While on the ds they... were the publisher for some games from other devs? boy howdy I wonder what nintendo was doing, totally forgetting about the 3ds in favor of the ds.

The 3D gimmick completely turned me off from ever actively wanting it. And calling it "3DS" probably just made my parents think it was a 3D version of the same thing, so they never got it for me on a whim (which they might've, I liked my handheld gaming).
Now I might grab it years after the fact to play a few o the games that interest me.

My theory, why the 3DS didn’t get a Pokémon game for so long they weren’t sure how to use or optimize 3-D on the 3DS
Also, they had to make the 3-D models which is still used today which took longer cause they had to make a 3D model for every Pokémon

This is quite interesting to me, since I got my first console in 2013 when I turned 7, and it was a blue DSi XL. I got a lot of main games like SM64, NSMB, Pkm B/W and B/W2 and so on, but to me at the time I thought the device was new, I never realized that my parents were buying an “older console” with similarly “old” games.

I’m not sure when I got a 3DS, I’d place it around 2015 or 2016, but that was definitely my favorite console as a kid, the upgrade from the ds was just so cool. Oot on that game was really cool (of course I had no concept of the n64).

From there I eventually got an XBox in like 2018, and somehow didn’t know the switch existed until 2019 or so, before finally getting one during the pandemic in 2020.

Nowadays the switch and my pc are my main game consoles. I’m probably going to upgrade to the Switch 2 and be fine with that.

I know you're not much of a Pokemon guy yourself, but they were the best titles on DS by far and those didn't even really start until 2007 with diamond and pearl
Edit: Pokemon Rumble (the first one on Wii) was an AMAZING game and there's a large community of shiny hunters dedicated to it. There's an event we do called "Rumble Weekend" try searching it up
