Yeah for $900 it had better be good :-) Pretty neat looking unit.
ОтветитьDip switch ??? I believe they're called toggle switches. It's really interesting to see Record-ology surprised by quality. After years of dealing with cheap Chinese junk. Perhaps we are seeing him morph into a frugal audiophile.
ОтветитьBeautiful record player, but there are more modern vertical record players, such as 'The Wheel', which has a slightly better element and a beautiful appearance. However, The Wheel does not have built-in speakers.
ОтветитьThere is no way to imagine what your portable record player collection must look like? Have you seen “Otomo’s Without Records” exhibit?
I played my transcription records with a vinyl bus….hahaha.
Looks cool. But I think that the only reasonable arrangement for a vertical turntable is to have a linear-tracking tonearm mounted at the top of the unit, with the tonearm hanging down--not angled up. Even then, I think that it would more of a fun gimmick.
Of course, because I'm a sucker for gimmicks, I'd buy one using that design. I know that there was at least one vintage table with that design, but I have never seen one for sale in the flesh.
Although I still would want a conventional turntable, I'm impressed by the build quality and design.
ОтветитьIf you're interested in "from the ridiculous to the sublime," I see 5 Below is also selling a vertical player now. I recall the last time you did a 5 Below it made a good first impression that didn't hold up.
ОтветитьI agree with you. The cartridge is the most important part of your sound system. I was hesitant to get an Audio Technica vmn 95ML ($169.99). But I did. The sound stage has opened up. The strings, which are a problem on some systems, are crisp and rich. And I've heard things that I haven't heard before. Just one question. Is the Decca 45 the Andrews Sisters?
ОтветитьGood review, but I doubt it will be a good seller - just too gimmicky and way WAY too expensive - Half price is still too expensive. Look for it after Christmas if interested, the price will likely dive -
ОтветитьI would purchase that if it didn't have the sound system inside, that's irrelevant to me.. hey I'm surprised although it does look like it's good quality but it's still out of reach.. that's a pretty high price point for the average consumer :/ and there's only three left 😂 on amazon. I'll stick with my novelty " *ion vertical vinyl" player (wall mounted of course) jk I own a real record player too
ОтветитьSeems like it's well made and I really enjoyed the video but I wouldn't ever get this turntable, for me it's not really an upgrade just a gimmick
ОтветитьThe last vertical tuirntable that I played was a MITSUBISHI of the early 80s. Unlike this one, the tonearm hung downward from the right instead of this turntables arrangement.
ОтветитьIt seems to me that there is somewhat of a form over function going on here. The lack of richness in sound reproduction could be due to a couple of things. It could be the all metal construction of the base limits the sound resonance of the speaker housing(s). It could also be due to the quality of the phono stage being used, the quality of the amp being used or the size and quality of the speaker drivers. If there is a lack of richness when outputting the audio signal to another device (amp) using the built-in phono stage then I would suspect that is the reason.
ОтветитьInteresting, but for the cost, I'd look at something more traditional, lol. Cool video!
ОтветитьI was impressed with it, but I wonder if you feel you might have been better to have bought the standard unit.
ОтветитьPro-Ject makes vertical turntables that seem like they are actually made to be a real turntable. No built in speakers or bluetooth.
Ответитьlooks cool but the price is steep for what you get .
ОтветитьAnother fun one!
ОтветитьA toy with no audiophile value ~ Plenty of other Turn Table out there for the same amount of $$Money$$ and better quality ~
Ответить😅😅😅better buy a technics SL10.
ОтветитьThe cat be like oo new toy to destroy 🤣
ОтветитьIt would appear that the weight on the rear of the arm would affect the skating and judging by how the arm flew to the centre indicates that it needs moving outwards.
I am amazed that it even played without jumping the track.
The playing weight is governed by the spring I think.
You can't hang this one on the wall!
ОтветитьAstronauts are not using vinyl records on the ISS. There is ZERO application for this nonsense.
Swag on a keychain is novelty. This is just dumb.
I just don't see the point, especially at that price. I'll stick my Technics SL-J3 linear and my AT-lp60x, both of which love.
ОтветитьWow, I haven't seen a 16 inch disc since I was a kid hanging out at my dad's AM radio station. Good memories, and my introduction to professional equipment. Love your channel!!
ОтветитьThat’s a lot of money for an all in one with somewhat below average sound. Definitely a novelty item. CoolGeek should have at least included a better cartridge like a $50 Audio Technica VM95C.
ОтветитьA mirrored dust cover left open would make anything look vertical... sort of. For the sake of that Cartridge the Plastic Fantastic reigns supreme...also sort of. Thanks for the show.
Ответитьthis is what I was hoping you would review now this looks great and built well I love the platter and the cart but the sound was disappointing there but like you said some speakers need a a break in period I noticed as you played some records there was some bass but it needs more ,ther is another vertical player that is fully automatic forgot the brand but you havr the ability to find it hoping you will find it,great vid JRo
ОтветитьI really like your videos, but I really don't see the point of that TT though : since it takes nearly as much horizontal table space as a regular TT, it nullifies the key point of having a vertical one, and some of them are so flat that they can be mounted on walls. Subjectivly, it doesn't even look good to me, and it doesn't even sound very good from your own admission. Can't see who would buy that really.
Ответить150 bucks worth. Not more than that. I would not use it for my good vinyls anyway.
ОтветитьI have had the Fuse verticle record player with the upgraded needle for almost two years and am very happy with it. It cost me a little over $200 from Amazon.
ОтветитьDon't know if you have ever heard of this turntable brand, but Wockoder is selling their turntable for a discount this week.
ОтветитьThe Mac Demarco “holographic” record would look pretty cool spinning on this.
Overall it seems incredibly expensive for what it is, but I’d have to imagine most people are buying something this for decoration rather than performance.
Wow that is expensive, for that amount I got a whole Fluance system, RT85 PA10 (preamp) AI61 speakers, and the DB10 subwoofer, and the RT85 came with the Ortofon 2m blue
ОтветитьAnd of course Five Below has a knock off for $25….
ОтветитьSeeburg jukeboxes from about 1950 and later played the record vertically. They even played both sides without flipping it over thanks to a double sided cartridge and reversing motor. Worked very well.
ОтветитьTo get more downforce for the record - it might be possible to use the turntable so the record is facing downwards; with a bit of 'book support' (or other). With the turntable in this form factor you could then try to play the 16 inch record with more downforce. (It might also be possible to use TWO acrylic platters to higher the record, so no need to worry about the clip being in the way; I'm guessing on this though. It may then allow you to play without worrying about the clip being in the way. All sorts of things to consider, which could be done with some 'fine tuning', so to speak).🤔
ОтветитьDoes this have a pre-amp built in or would you need to get one?
ОтветитьTrash..gravity is key.
