Take a good look at this movie it's like looking in mirror at our own reflextion. The human race is doomed due to our own stupidity. I think it's getting too late to change😢

The issue with the reboot is simple: nobody takes any time to explain anything and we're just supposed to assume that stuff is happening. The scene with the Professor (John Cleese in the reboot) says nothing, no real information is passed over, just as an example. That's fine for many movies that are relatively simple in concept even if they might be strange or abstract. Here, you need to understand the issues and stakes. It needs to take some time to build that understanding. Which is one of the reasons this works and the reboot doesn't. Along with silly over done effects, and generalized bad writing and direction.

Many of the 50s and 60s movies were terrible Cold War screeds. A few were different and stood out because of their focus on real ideas and robust stories. This is perhaps the best of them IMHO.

This is a beautifully written screenplay full of meaning and gravitas. Aside from the brilliant special effects, sets, props, and fantastic b&w noir filming, even the quotes are superior: "My people haven't. I'm very sorry, I wish it was otherwise.", "...it's entirely possible; in light of our meager knowledge...", "...we may be up against powers that are beyond our control.", "...you see, they don't have any wars.", "I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reason...", "I wouldn't erase that; the professor needs it very badly.", "...there are several thousand questions I'd like to ask.", "Violent action...since that seems to be the only thing your people understand.", "Bobby was telling the truth, wasn't he?" "Yes", WASHINGTON QUARANTINED No One Permitted to Leave City, "I don't care about the rest of the world.", "Join us; and live in peace or pursue your present course...".

Great movie, but it occurred to me: He has the ability to turn off all the power world-wide, level cities, even incinerate the entire planet...but he couldn't hack into TV and radio stations and broadcast his message to the whole world at once? Klatuu Barada Nikto, indeed.

The movie was made in 1951 which is amazing I thought it was more in the '60s. it's really terrific to watch a movie that doesn't have naked people running around, men kissing men and women kissing women and them both he she or it's doing whatever that they show that they do on Amazon or Netscape or HBO etc and also on the regular TV channels they show that smut. it's also terrific absolutely wonderful to your ears do not listen to the four letter words that are shouted like or spoken just like a a handshake or a hello or good to meet you Mr f which is horrible for children to learn.

A GREAT movie - BUT the totally implausible lack of security at the space ship, and the complete ease at which The Robot goes to get Klaatu, and brings him
back to the ship without being discovered is just too much, and it could have been done so much more believably. I would love to see a colorized version.

For those who are interested, some other good SiFi movies from the 1950’s time frame are “Forbidden Planet”, “Invasion of the Body Snatcher”, & “The Thing”. Make sure to watch the originals 1950’s version since several of these movies have been more recently remade, which are OK, but in my opinion not as good as the original versions!

A note of interest, the original version of “The Thing” starred as the monster a very young James Arness. For younger people, James played later in his career Marshal Matt Dillon on one of the longest running TV western’s, “Gunsmoke”! And Patrica O’Neal in this movie, “The Day the Earth Stood Still” was one of the original actors in the famous long running Broadway Production of “The Miracle Worker”! Which was later made into a multi Academy Award winning movie, for its stars.

Of course, that’s not to say there aren’t good SiFi movies being made today! But the bottom line for any movie, TV show, play, etc. is telling a good story! And sometimes I feel with today’s abilities in special effects, the story occasionally gets buried!

This is probably how this scenario would play out in our present reality. We’d shoot first, attempt to dissect alien specimens, and then ultimately get what we deserve. Meanwhile, earthlings would hide behind their respective lame religious beliefs but no one will save them.

Pop-culture trivia -
This sound track was used for the 1960s black and white unaired "Lost in Space" S01E00 pilot episode - titled "No Place to Hide" - before they created their own unique sound track for S01E01 - titled - "The Reluctant Stowaway" The pilot had two characters missing - The robot and Dr. Smith

This movie is brilliant, the remake is garbage. They injected global warming politics into the remake. Imagine a planet with a global warming problem and his solution is to NEGATE ELECTRICITY. That means nuclear power, solar power, tidal power, any mechanic that changes into electrical power will not function because electricity has been negated. He has forced 8 billion people to burn fossil fuels for heat. That is not a solution. The remake is stupid.
