I work in NYC and Philadelphia US wear openly Rolex, Breitling, Omega, and A. Lange never had an issue. There is something to be said for the failure in London to keep its law abiding citizens safe.

I wear nice watches but routinely wear a jacket so no sketchy people notice it.

Just a few months ago I had a guy pull out a big knife when I was with my wife and 2 year old son and started walking towards us from behind. I luckily spotted him and dragged my family into a store we were luckily walking past. In the moment I felt it was best to get in front of some CCTV cameras. I told my wife to take the stroller to the back of the store and I stuffed my watch into the stroller in haste.

Thankfully this acted as enough of a deterrent that the guy ran off immediately and didn't enter the store. If he did I would have just handed my watch. I actually don't live in the UK anymore and this is a reminder of why. I live in Singapore where I happily wear my expensive watches with zero fear of being robbed. The UK really has declined a great deal and part of the reason is these thieves don't fear prison or the repercussions of their actions.
