Hi Richard when you look at a piece of wood how do know it is highly figured? Love your videos.
ОтветитьAlways a treat to watch one of your videos.
ОтветитьI see you are using one of Tomasilav’s finishers. Beautiful lidded bowl. I have two well dried Mesquite discs that have since developed a substantial crack on the edge, so I thought to try making a lidded box like that but filling in the cracks with turquoise?
ОтветитьWonderful! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
ОтветитьThanks RR
ОтветитьI love that design, such clean and organic shape. Original one that you made was from 70s, right?
Great job as always 😊
Excellent, thank you
ОтветитьLove that you are using TT’s refiner
ОтветитьThat's a great job.
ОтветитьTo those who do not know, the AAW Board of Directors conferred Honorary Lifetime Membership to Richard Raffan for extraordinary contributions to the American Association of Woodturners and the advancement of woodturning.
CONGRATULATIONS Richard! Well deserved.
Wow, that's beautiful love it ❤
ОтветитьAnother beautiful lesson and piece!
ОтветитьI love to watch your delicate movements. Your gouges and scrapers look like surgical instruments.
ОтветитьI am surprised that you machine out the inside from the centre to the edge. I have always worked in the opposite direction to use the centre core to support the rim to reduce chatter.
Do you vary your approach based upon the wood species and/or the condition? Or does using a higher speed assist the chatter reduction?
In the lower south east corner of South Australia, I don’t have access to “exotic” species but mainly Red/Pink Gum (Eucalyptus varieties), Cypress Pine, or Pine. The area is a major forestry region.
The red gum are usually rescued from fire wood piles as it is hard and hot burning timber.
Richard such a lovely looking piece .
ОтветитьLovely box. I liked it better with the foot Richard. Great description and well explained. Liked the problem solving.
ОтветитьBeautiful work Richard.
ОтветитьI find your wooden tools really cool and hope to see more of them
ОтветитьGreat work the Handel is interesting. Just looks right for the piece
ОтветитьLathe sounds are loud and perfect but I can hardly hear you talk. Is the microphone fallen in your pocket?
ОтветитьA master not only in turning, but in teaching also, minimal talking while saying
all the important things.
I saw you only hand sand without power tools, and yet the finish is great. I guess the better you turn the less sanding you need. Can you please specify what exactly give you that great finish off the tols?
Like the recessed knob, very much. 😊👍

Nice.
ОтветитьVery nice.
ОтветитьWonderful job I love it !!! Beautiful and creative ! You gained a passionate and happy subscriber !
ОтветитьReally love your craftwork, sir. Still waiting for my purchased DC 220Vac 400W Motor, will DIY wood lathe and have fun with wood turning craft. Using Electric Drill to make one simply too noisy and wobbling quite a bit.
ОтветитьLovely wood Richard and a lovely Job
ОтветитьRichard did not sleep at night because of that little edge, gotta love the guy.
ОтветитьHi Richard, would ever use a sanding sealer before the beeswax? Thank you
ОтветитьIt's so cool to see you using Tomis Refiner, he speaks so highly of you in all his videos. I can only imagine how good that makes him feel. Of course great turn too Richard, you did that srunning wood justice.
ОтветитьLoved the MDF trick to remount the bowl. You are so proficient that you make it look easy. What fabulous work and technique!
ОтветитьElegant, Richard. Well done.
ОтветитьI have a block of wood on the lathe at the moment that I am attempting to turn into something similar. I know it won't be to your high-quality, but I will do my best.
