Girl I’m half way through the video, the housing is like this almost everywhere. I live in Auburn Alabama (huge college football town) so the majority of the apartment complexes, town homes, and “single family” homes that they’ve built/ are building are geared towards either students (because mommy and daddy will shell out a crap ton of money for their child to live comfortably) or extremely higher paying jobs where you can afford it.
Us regular working folk(I make a decent wage, higher than most. Praise the Lord) literally having trouble finding places to live.
There was this one apartment that I really wanted, I just wanted to take a look for next year since I’m already in a lease. Girl! I went back on the website today (it’s been only a month and a half later) why is the rent up like $400!!? FOR WHAT!?
I’m also in this community Facebook group and this was a topic of discussion. Regular smegular folks are unfortunately overlooked in our town for the rich college kids. Our minimum wage out here is still $7.25/hr, hell if you work at McDonald’s you start out at $11/hr, so where in the world do you think normal folks can get money to afford these $1600-$2500/mo apartments!? And that’s just the dang rent. We haven’t even begun to talk about the other expenses to keep the apartment.
I believe our median household income is less than $60k/yr(honestly tragic)
You literally have to shack up in order to live decently. It takes 2 people fr fr.
But you’re in a blessed situation! I really hope you’re able to get the place you want. I’ve been meaning to ask, would you consider buying a town home in your mom’s community? I know you’re itching to get out of there by the end of the year, but would you be willing to stay another year or until August just to scope out the housing market more? That way you can pay off all of your debt and be able to save a tad more.
Or would you consider moving elsewhere in Virginia or maybe closer to NC? I think you might wanna be closer to family, if not I would say GA,TN,TX!! They have good housing! Or have you been able to look at maybe some single family homes to rent?
I feel like the closer you get to the bigger cities the more ridiculous this rent will be based on your series. These people are crazy, good luck girlie!
I’m loving all the recent videos! I will say from experience, try to hold off on getting decor and certain furniture until you see and have the apartment. Since you don’t know exactly where you are moving, you may change your mind about the decor and furniture pieces. They may not go or fit the space properly. Even a Xmas tree, I’ve had to get different ones over time to go with the space each place provided. If you really want cause it’s on sale just keep the receipt then.
Ответитьits going to workout Kayla ❤❤ and I agree inflation has been way to high
ОтветитьWords are powerful, stop saying I’m broke because you are now IDENTIFYING with that idea and your world will respond to that. You can say instead “I feel like I am not in the position I want to be in” you can say instead “I am working on the funds to gain the future I desire”
Do not say “I’m broke” cause that means that’s where you want to stay whether you realize or not because your brain don’t know the difference boo ❤ you saying that will drive the actions that will make you stay in that place
This is for everyone too who needs it!
Your videos are just.. 🤌🏾✨ I too am working on financial independence and stability. I too treated myself into being broke. I TOO lost half my toenail and haven’t been able to get a pedicure in MONTHS 😭 your vulnerability and openness make me feel less alone. We appreciate you on YT 🫶🏾
ОтветитьI live in the DMV area & rent prices are def high. Inflation is a real thing. I doubt people who are making 65K (joint or single income) are living in any luxury or "newer" apartments, and if they are, its probably the tiny studios (in my building which is marketed as "luxury" they go for 1.7-1.8K) vs even a jr 1 bed. They are most likely living further out of any metropolitan city area and more in the suburbs (i.e. springfield instead of alexandria, germantown instead of rockville) to get the larger apartments at a more affordable rate. I do think there's a lot of people living in these luxury buildings with the higher rent on some kind of subsidized program for housing. Or they're moving in with roommates. The 3x the rent requirement (gross income) is pretty standard across the entire area though, especially for high rise/luxury buildings. The requirements at older buildings, from what I've seen, tend to be less.
Ответитьgreat vlog
ОтветитьI agree! I had one leasing agent who told me, he couldn’t even afford to live in the units he was showing me. It’s crazy! Some place are requesting 2.5 times which isn’t bad l, but the 3 Xs is wild! I’m not understanding what is going on w/these apartments cuz it ain’t the move! And on top of that like u said the prices change daily 😤😤 it’s starting to be scary being able to live alone.
ОтветитьI know your dream is to move out by Christmas. But… I 💭 with the prices and your issues and the upcoming retrogrades. Stay with your family save and get your credit fix even more get that debt down. Maybe you will move. But I honestly believe you are getting ready. But God is going to move you next year spring time. I want you to be logical and realistic. Save!
ОтветитьIn my country, Portugal, same thing girl, rents are super expensive. They (governments) want us with our heads down working our asses off to pay these crazy rents and other bills, with no time to do something against it.
ОтветитьGirl rent prices is out of control it has been for a while. N yes they asking for 3x the rent n I’m on Maryland so I get it!
Ответитьi 100% feel you. I currently live at my moms and it is so hard for people in the middle class. I just want to live comfortable but these prices for rent, food and etc is crazy.
ОтветитьInflation is down Kayla. It's corporate greed.
ОтветитьMy aunt bought her home for $350,000 in Florida about a decade ago. Just a normal one story 3 bedroom home. Valued at $800,000 now 😩😩 I’ll never own a home at this point lmao
ОтветитьYou are SPEAKING TRUTH! My Nephews and Nieces are in your age group and they are struggling! With good jobs here on the East Cost. Things like going to the movies or out to dinner is a luxury!
ОтветитьMutuals?
ОтветитьI understand how you feel, that's one of the reasons why I moved out of my old apartment! The rent increase was too much. 😩
ОтветитьGirl get rid of all that debt because interest is just robbing you no matter how little it is. And if you’re not able to move by Christmas you can start like a new year new apt series . Fresh for 2025. I also spend so much more during the holidays…maybe you do too idk. But that way you have more wiggle room in your budget. Whatever you decide I know you got this!!!❤
Ответить💕💕💕
ОтветитьI use to work in leasing. It typically is three times the yearly rent and if your income doesn’t show that then they’ll ask for a consigner or guarantor and they’ll need to show even more income, sometimes five times. Once someone applies for an apartment the price on the website automatically increases because it’s showing the demand is high so they’ll definitely be able to rent it. It’s a crazy process! Hopefully it all works out for you!!!
ОтветитьI hear you God bless us
ОтветитьThe struggle 😫
ОтветитьHonestly things in this country are ridiculous. My husband and I make 200k a year, we live in Rhode Island and been looking to buy our home for almost 3 yrs. Yes we want land and a bigger house but it is ridiculous a couple cannot buy a house they want. I mean, we could but all the money would go to mortgage.
It's so disheartening 😩
Omg girl I feel the same about living in 🇨🇦. Like I make what I thgt is decent money n trying to look for a place to live I cannot even afford the ghetto 🙈🙈🙈 like rent is so crazy. And you are absolutely right!! It’s soo mind boggling I’m trying figure how people are buying houses & having multiples kids like geez . I saw a post recently where they did say in Canada or where rent was going to keep going up & predicted the rent in 2032 to be like 4-5K like who is going to be paying that 🥴🥴🥴🥴
ОтветитьOK, yes gas was a dollar back in the day, but also wages were way lower too. Inflation doesn’t just affect the cost of things, but it also affects income too
ОтветитьGirl i think that rant is something we all kinda dealing with, it’s so many sacrifices we have to do just to live in this time especially if your single!
ОтветитьYou are right. There aren't any apartments for $1850. I'm surprised you found a 2 bedroom for $2500 and a new build too!
ОтветитьSlowdown girl - you don’t have to get Every Thing before moving. Save some things for later and then you can enjoy brining stuff home to your new place and enjoying it.
Ответить💯
ОтветитьI hope you find a place you will love so they can stop giving you the run around 👍🏾👏🏾🤗🤎
ОтветитьI’m from the U.K. maybe it’s an American thing to completely deck out your whole home in whatever holiday is coming up? Which is cute but expensive not something we really do here yes a tree but not all the rest
On a different note don’t worry about having everything to move you’ll figure it out when your there
Love your commitment to eating at home it makes such a change and it’s amazing how quickly we can get into that routine not to mention money saved!
Buying SO much for the new apartment but titling this video that you’re broke does not make sense sister. You don’t need $20 glass bowls and all these things immediately when moving. Sales will come and go always
ОтветитьGirl! This! I live in NC and am experiencing the same. My apartment is falling apart but the luxury of having apartment options to move is non existent because of how much they cost and how much they say you have to make. New apartments go up ALL THE TIME but they are all the same. IDK who is moving into these, I didnt know there were so many rich people that these places cater to all over the country. The medium income in my area is $50K but 1 bedrooms here are at least $1800.And I'm in the middle like you mentioned, dont make enough for the expensive places and too much for the affordable places to approve me. Growing up is a scam
ОтветитьLately I got interested in lnvestlng but have no idea on how to go about it. Can anyone help with a reliable tra-der?????

ОтветитьI moved into my first apartment this year. I'm a stay at home mom (bc I'd literally be working for child care alone) and my bf caries the bills. We live in "the partial ghetto" and rent is 1800 plus utilities can get up to 2k. And then they told us by accident that there is going to be a yearly increase in rent???? For what?!?! They wanted proof of THREE TIMES the rent. Like EXCUSE ME, but if each of us made three times the rent we would not be wanting to live here. It's getting ridiculous around here and no one is going to be afford to live anywhere. And forget about the housing market over here! (eastern pa/western nj).
I'm finding a little comfort in the comments that we are all going through the same thing here. And unfortunate similar situation but not alone nonetheless.
I would definitely say get into doing your own gel x nails! You can buy a kit to get started for less or about the price of getting it done but you’ll have stuff for MULTIPLE SETS!!
ОтветитьI remember my grandmother telling me that the first time she moved out alone her rent was $50 and I replied "with all due respect, I would like to change the subject bc my energy bill is more than that" lol it is wildddd how costly everything is!
ОтветитьI am 32. I live with my mom. I moved back in a few years ago when she got diagnosed with cancer. (All good now.) I have the highest paying job I have ever had ($16 an hour, 40-43 hours a week) and I cannot even get by without paying rent and utilities. It's ridiculous out here. I also have 3 dogs, because I was a licensed vet tech for 10 years before taking my currently job, and not a single place in my town will rent to you if you have dogs. Yet people I know who won't get a job, are on drugs, and keep popping out kids left and right (one is 26 and has 7 kids!) are out here living it up.
ETA: I live in a small, rural farm town in Kentucky. I cannot imagine trying to live in a big city.
Girl I live in the D(M)V and 32 and luckily my husband and I bought a home in 2021 when covid helped with home prices so we qualified & pay a monthly mortgage of $1700 for a brand new townhouse 😭😭😭 I feel so grateful because before that we were renting an apartment for $1400 so it’s crazy to hear how expensive the apartment market is rn
ОтветитьOkay Kayla👀 I see you, pushing big weight in the gym! Lol
ОтветитьEverything is really expensive more now these days!
ОтветитьHey Kayla I enjoyed this video, girl you’re apartment is going to be fully furnished before you move in which is a great thing having the opportunity to purchase what you need before is a great thing I know the lack of space is getting crazy but you have a great start . The pricing of these apartments are crazy I’m in Texas and the last time I was looking to rent it was two times the rent but that was right before Covid it’s crazy out here!!!💕💕
ОтветитьTHANK YOU FOR BEING SO AUTHENTIC AND TRUTHFUL IN THIS VIDEO I REALLY ENJOYED IT. ALSO LOVED THE VARIETY OF THE SHOPPING HAULS :)
ОтветитьBe smart save to buy not throwing your 💰 for rent I did that and so glad I never went to and rented and saved to buy. We are fortunate to have good parents to let us stay and Save take advantage of it
ОтветитьGirl! You are speaking facts.
ОтветитьGirl, I’m a MD Realtor and I work with private landlords. The standard everywhere is they expect you to make a minimum of 3 times the rent per month (can be combined with someone) or 35 times the rent for the year. It can be a lot especially in the high price points… wishing you the best in your search!! 🫶🏾
