i love how unapologetic this movie is about being goofy and cheesy. it is silly and sincere and heartfelt and willing to make fun of itself and it isn't embarrassed about any of those things. there isn't a shred of irony or cynicism to be found.

joy is the most vulnerable emotion and as a writer it takes a lot of guts to have something joyous and own that instead of trying to be too cool to be silly. it's brave to make something you know will never be considered High Art because it isn't very serious! it's so refreshing how this movie embraces having a good time, and you can tell everyone is having a blast--it seems like the solo shots of the biker girls might be improvised?

teen beach movie is one of the all time greats because it, as a famous humorist once put it, dares to be stupid. i'll be chasing the pure, unrestrained, slightly incredulous joy i felt the first time i saw the stages rise up from the floor for the rest of my life.

I’m 21 now, but when this came out I was 12 or something like that. I remember being at my childhood friend’s house and we were watching this and we would sing along. She would sing the “girls” part and I would sing the “boys” part. We fell asleep on the couch that night and I woke up and she had her head on my shoulder. From then on we would kinda of flirt and spend more time together. We grew apart when we got to high school. After graduation I saw her at the Vinyl shop, and we started hanging out again. We’ve been dating for 2 years now. To sum things up…you never know who the love of your life could be…you could get lucky and find them young. My mom and Dad were elementary school sweethearts and they are still married to this day.
