Thanks. Was wondering what people meant by “activating” a park
ОтветитьThanks Josh. Appreciate the links and the explanations. Take it easy. Sedentary hmm those two boys will keep ya running. Go get some rest! 73
ОтветитьTnx, I've been wondering what SOTA stood for.
ОтветитьI use a KX3. I was the first to activate the highest peak in VK6...Mount Meharry
ОтветитьI won't be doing any SOTAs with my KX3 for as long as I can see. Can't even get PSK31 on Digipan 2.0 to work. Again,I am denied.
ОтветитьThey have some nice summits you can drive to. I would also mention that your setup cannot touch your vehicle if you drive. I am now equipped to do that. Thanks for the video.
Ответить"SOTA is a ham radio activity where you take your radio to a peak..."
Nebraska stations have left the chat...
I'm a former Army radio operator. Live in Colorado and do a lot of backpacking. Taking the Tech/General test in July hopefully, if not cancelled by COVID. What are some good HT units that would work well for SOTA peak activations? I'm partial to weather-sealed devices. Want a small, light setup. Thanks for your feedback.
ОтветитьI think SOTA goat is no longer available (on play store). Maybe it was renamed?
ОтветитьI think that is very adventurous
ОтветитьThank you. For the first time, I see how they number and locate the peaks. A great intro explanation. Wish this video were on their web site.
ОтветитьSOTA is CW only?
ОтветитьI just realized your backdrop is a sewing cutting mat... LOL. Thanks for another great info blast, and congrats on the ARRL award!!
ОтветитьI live in Oklahoma. We don’t really have mountains.
ОтветитьCan you damage a VHF/UHF mobile or HT by operating very close to a repeater? There is a SOTA/POTA combo that has a FM repeater on the same summit. Of course I would be broadcasting simplex but I wondered if the proximity would overload the radio. Would it be dangerous to have the repeater frequency monitored from within hundreds of feet? What about using the repeater from that close, say to advertise my SOTA/POTA through the related to draw local hunters to my simplex frequency.
ОтветитьI wish we had hills here
ОтветитьI'm in Florida, no "Summits". How can we start BOTA? Beaches On The Air? It would be great for the Cha TDL and wouldn't interfere (much) with the beach combers.
ОтветитьWas hoping to activate Elephant Tusk and/or Casa Grande in Big Bend NP next month, but got my shoulder tweaked pretty hard in a car wreck last month. May still try Enchanted Rock the 30th, since it's pretty much walk up, but I gotta get the shoulder healed because radio or not, I still want to stand on top of those two mountains I've admired on a couple of backpacking trips in the High Chisos.
ОтветитьI ain’t climbing any mountain so no SOTA for me I’ll just get me a soda and a cigar and transmit from home. lol
