Great timing! Thank you very much Craig. I'm trying to psyche myself up to bleach and tone my own hair (rather than the box dye I've use for years) and, of course, I've been watching hours of people ruining their hair with bleach first!

Olaplex or Ascorbic Acid Rinse after Bleaching will reverse some of the Oxidation Damage and restore the Cystine Bonds.

I had to have my already short hair cut into a short pixie because of bleach damage. My hair literally turned to a straw texture. Wouldn't hold moisture at all no matter what I used. I was using K18 but it was beyond being able to be repaired. I suspect the 4 sessions of highlights in a span of 6 months was the cause. I was only trying to blend the white hair in my temple so I wouldnt have to dye my gray hair every 4 four weeks. I was hoping the highlights would blend them for less upkeep. Besides all the damage, my hair kept turning orange even after a week. I suspect I was only being lifted to a level 7 or 8. I'm about a level 5.5-6 naturally. So I cut it and dyed it back to my level 6 brown. I have to tone more often because it doesn't hold the Demi permanent color but that's getting better and better the more it's toned. The health of my hair was more important because it looks like crap being blonde that defeated the purpose of what I wanted to do. I'm embracing my gray temples and I'm gonna try to go salt and pepper once I can get all the bleach damage cut off.

Hi Craig.
This will probably sound crazy lol. But when I bleach my hair it feels thicker and has more volume, is this even possible? Or is it all in my head? 😆

Hello ,Craig i really enjoy your videos . I would like to know if developers can expire. I'm have been using the same products on my hair for a long time and have been happy with the results but now they don't seem to be working like they were before. I'm a leverl 6 and I use 'Blonde Me' hair lightner and a 20 vol. developer and Olaplex bonder .Thank you, in advance.

Thank you for this video! If you are trying to bump, say a level 6/ 7 to a 9, what volume of developer do you recommend? Is this considered “overlapping”? Thanks!

I’m interested in highlighting my own hair. I last had caramel highlights done at the salon 10 years ago and chunks of my hair broke off! The stylist blamed me for using cheap shampoo. I blamed her & never returned. Thanks for your common sense advice, Craig! 🥰

I think what most people (amateur and even some pros) don't realize is that these are Really strong chemicals because hair is predominantly protein, so it requires something strong in order to permanently alter it. Before even choosing developer strength, most aren't even aware that many bleaches have a pH similar to a mild relaxer (which is one of the reasons why the two aren't compatible). I'm even more surprised at how 40 volume is able to be used with high lift color, when on it's own it's pretty corrosive and can burn the skin in seconds.

Your trying to tell everyday people not to overlap lolll they can’t get a centimeter close to the hairline loll they can try
But everyone is going to think bleach will go further and then cause banding
I think this video should be longer
And not just a rant

Thanks for this video! I am naturally a level 1 or 2 and get to a level 9/10 when I leave the bleach in my hair for 3 hours. If i use 10 or 15vol with bleach on my hair, is it ok to overlap a little when I do my roots?

Sitting here with bleach on my head and 😂 no overlapping is quite hard doing by my own. So hoping that 2% , K18 plus Olaplex ist preventing the breakage of my extremely fine hair! I really appreciate your videos from Germany

Hi Craig! I’m having trouble with my hair as I have dyed and bleached my hair a lot myself all over the rainbow and at the moment I am a pretty yellow level 7/8 trying to get it to a violet ash level 9-10. I have only ever used 10 or 20 volume in my hair and I was wondering how much you take into account overlap when using peroxide in things like toners (not talking about permanent ones here). My hair is damaged but my plan would be to do a 10/20 volume bleach lightener (I have an ammonia free one) and then an EQ gloss and am worried about causing too much damage. I did a strand test and the 20 volume lifted okay but wanted your opinion on the effects of doing repeated toners which use developers on already compromised hair? Also if I were to decide against bleaching more and just tone, would the result trying to be a violet silver grey end up too muddy even if I used a level 8 toner due to the ‘brassiness’ of my hair as I’ve heard you say if you want a clean bright result you need level 9 or above. Thank you!

Hello Craig,
Thank you so much for all your informational, sciency and insightful content. Unfortunately I came upon your channel after I tried a hi-lift coloring with 40vol 🫣 That’s been 2 months ago and have been using K18 (shampoo, mask & oil) thanks to your videos.
This weekend I will bleach my hair. I will do a strand test first. I’m thinking of using a mixture of 20Vol and 7Vol at a ratio of 1:1 (I’ve seen other professionals mix them on yourube) For the bleach powder and oxidant I’m thinking of a 1:2 ratio.
Would you say this mixture is still risky and only 7Vol is prefered?
Kind regards, Fabian

Thank you, Graig!! I'm going to the hairdresser tomorrow to get my hair highlighted (bleach). What's the best thing to do with my hair the day before? Wash it and finish with K18-leave in? Or K18 in for 5 min, and rinse? Or something else? (I need to wash it because it´s a lot of products in it - I totally forgot that I have an hair-appointment tomorrow - booked many months ago ...)

I think every peroxide level has its purpose. I often use 30vol for highlights in open air techniques, it’s my go to. I do use lower for more caramel results and obviously lower on on-scalp lightening.
I have some single process blondes and I usually use 30vol when lifting with color so the pigment reflect is not blasted away from too high of a developer but there are still 3 levels of lift.
In some instances 40vol does do the trick for when I need to get a bright copper color on darker virgin hair for the lengths&ends or when I do open air highlights on coarse hair that need a clean lift.
Or when I do a first time blonding and the last sections need to catch up. I do use it cautiously tho
