Part of the problem is profiteering by the big manufacturers. If a basic lightning cable will cost me £19 from the Apple Store (price at time of writing) I will obviously get a compatible cable for £1.50! What could POSSIBLY be worth £19 in a cable!? The same thing undoubtedly applies across the board leading to the popularity of compatibles and fakes. Some attention should be directed at overpricing by manufacturers.

Am guilty of buying generic, been companies won't sell components of originals to average people it's just not as accesible been for personal use. Example cellphones components, it's a push to waste money, throw away whole phone and buy a whole new one. That's companies fault. The alternative is Frankenstein the phone from another original phone but end with same issue as one single component can cost equally to a new phone, it is a struck of luck if able to find such original at reasonable price.

I live in New Zealand and the price of electronics is exponential higher than anywhere in the world, but I can purchase goods from China and save huge amount of money and I have never had any problems with any of the goods I have purchased. I never buy electronics in New Zealand they are 10x the amount.
