The preamble to the US Constitution sent to the 13 states for approval in 1787 reflects the direct influence of the Fundamental Laws of Connecticut written by Puritans n 1639;. A government exists chiefly or in order that the people nay enjoy liberty. The Bill of Rights that followed later reflects the fact that after the English rid themselves of James 11 they demanded a Bill of Rights under William and Mary . In fact an individual Bill of Rights was common in the thirteen colonies before the passage of the Constitution.
