Unethical? He was probably one of the most ethical archers out there. Don't you shoot animals? It was a different time back then, laws were different.

I understand your reverence for HH, but I feel I must challenge you on a couple of points. Firstly, the power of a bow does not translate directly to humane killing, it is more a function of the type of Broadhead used. Secondarily, please take a moment to watch the video of HH shooting a drugged shark underwater; It's quite pitiful, really.

I didn't see any chain. How did they catch the lion in the first place and put a chain on him. LOL If they did that, they wouldn't had to shoot him. You can see the lion at first moving without a chain.

If that lion isn't chain it would of charge as soon as the arrow hit its mark. But looks like the lion trying to move and couldn't do it, so just had to hit the ground with its paw.

So I see a fair amount of comments about the way this was shot. Many people wondering if Hill was an archer or actor. Yes, he was both, but more than that he was invested in making films about archery. Here's the truth, Howard Hill was as good of a hunter as existed at the time, but videography wasn't that good yet and they needed shot scenes that were more acted out than natural. So yes, that lion is filmed both free-ranging and caught but shot while captive. It is widely known that Hill shot several animals at the time in this manner due to the videography demands and not his hunting ability. He was a very skilled archer and a fairly good hunter as seen in later films. But the videos took precedence on these early trips.

Howard Hill...balls of steel! Fred Bear openly acknowledged his skills as one of the best bowhunters ever, if not the best. You got a lot of chumps throwing hate at him who haven't accomplished shit with a stick and string. I will stick with Fred Bear's opinion of the man.
