Lycabettus hill is the tallest point in the heart of Athens.

Every year, thousands of locals and tourists make their way to the summit to enjoy the panoramic view from an elevation of 277 meters.

You can also grab a bite to eat at the café/restaurant up there or visit the church of Agios Georgios (St. George).

Although it is possible to hike up in about 30 minutes, many people prefer taking the Cable Car (Funicular). We hike up once a week and enjoy the views along the way. There are no views while riding the train.

The Lycabettus Cable Car was first opened on April 18, 1965, and began running a day later.

The starting point is at the end of Plutarch Street, where it meets Aristippou Street in Kolonaki (nearest Underground station, Evangelismos).

The Cable Car runs every day of the year from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., but during the winter months, it might stop earlier. It typically runs every 30 minutes, but during busy times, it can be as frequent as every 10 minutes.

The cable car line is 210 meters long, and the entire trip takes about 3 minutes, all within a tunnel.

On average, the Lycabettus Cable Car carries around 300,000 passengers annually.
