this whole idea of thinking everything is "fake" is so cringe. im tired of it. no, there wasnt free energy from stoves in the 19th century. The reason planes makes seemingly random diversions like that is in individual cases likely to avoid a weather event, but if it's consistent it's almost always because of mountains. Commercial jetliners cruise at 30k feet but in an emergency where the cabin loses pressure they need to rapidly descend to 10k feet. If there are any significant mountains in an area pilots will take a wide birth around just to be sure they can drop to emergency altitude if needed. Nepal is almost a complete no fly zone for flights not direct flying there. There are flight maps you can find online where you can see all the areas with large mountains being avoided consistently.

I know a pilot and he has told me about why they don't take straight paths. It is because taking a longer path will delay the landing time, which is important when scheduling 250 planes to land at certain times and weaving them all in so there are no overlaps or long holding patterns.
