It has been a long time away from the cabin but you two have been so busy. Sorry about the garden but the berries sure made up for that.

Hi Oli and Tacia, shame about your garden but, that's Alaska for ya the weeds take right over. You do have some good bear activity there. I can't believe all the different berries you have, I would never leave, lol. Sorry about your finger, Tacia. My favorite time of the year is Winter, I just love the snow. Thanks for sharing.

It is worth taking care of the place for potato cultivation already in autumn. The treatments that should be performed then are deep ploughing and harrowing the ground, or digging it with a spade if the bed is small. It is also necessary to remove weeds and fertilize the substrate with manure. Before winter, it is worth using phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. After each fertilization of the soil, it should be plowed. In spring, it is necessary to harrow the field again and use nitrogen fertilizer. If the plants are grown in the garden or on the plot, humus fertilizer will suffice.

For planting potatoes, you should choose seed potatoes that have produced at least 4 sprouts each. The tubers should also not have mechanical damage.

Potatoes are planted at a depth of 4 to 8 cm. The distance between the seedlings should be 20-40 cm, and between the rows – 60-90 cm. After planting, potatoes should be covered with a 2 cm layer of soil. Very early and early varieties of potatoes are planted as early as the turn of March and April. Due to the risk of frost, the bed can be protected with non-woven fabric. Later varieties of potatoes should be planted in the second half of April.

Potato tubers accumulate a large amount of water, so they do not need to be watered immediately after planting. Later watering, however, is recommended, especially during periods of drought. The plant has the highest demand for water during flowering. Regular weed removal, hoeing and pest protection are also essential.

An important procedure in potato cultivation is the formation of ridges up to a height of about 30 cm. The treatment should be performed 2-3 times, every week after planting the tubers.

It is good to fertilize potatoes with mineral fertilizers – phosphorus and potassium.

She is right about potato seeds are the eyes a potato is alive even after harvest that’s why when you leave a potato out it will start to sprout remember a potato has very little solid and is mostly 82% starch and water the potato converts the starch into sugar as nutrients for the seed!
