I think it could be easier for colored pencil artists to handle them because they seem to have wax in their composition, so the technique to use them is almost the same.

Do you spray your graphite work with matte fixative spray when you're done? A couple coats of that is what I use and it removes much of the graphite shine and prevents smudges...

I went to the fine art of houston museum last October and I saw a 18th century graphite drawing that didn't have any reflection of graphite shine. I was so surprised. I still haven't figured out what type of material was used on drawing.

Guys... Mars lumograph 8b is matte. Been using it since 15-10 years ago. It's not new

These pencils are pure garbage, same as the Staedlter Lumograph Black (BTW all the F.C. & Staedlter range are just cheap products). They're a blen of graphite and carbon and the quality is just average and the result is evident, give to the draw a very cheap aspect. Graphite are the best, but if you don't know well how to choose the quality and how to use it, it's obvious that the results will be bad like in the drawing at the beginning of the video.

The issues with blending you mentioned halfway through is not the pencils, it's the paper. I can't imagine using watercolor paper with graphite. I'm shocked it came out as good as it did, despite the paper.

Hello Kirsty, I have two questions for you, one question is you showed a picture you've drawn years on this same video, why haven't you redo the picture of the identical lady to show that the Faber Castle pencils, works far better from the glossy picture in using the other set art pencils. And the 2nd question is my dilemma conquering smudges. It's no matter what technique I use in avoiding smudges onto my drawings. For instance; I use a clear bridge tool to avoid my right hand from making smudges, but I make smudges very easily. I used my drawing glove on my right hand to prevent undesirable smudges, but easily again I made smudges effortlessly, and I used a 2nd sheet of paper to protect my initial drawing, but again still smudges. Kirsty I've been drawing for years, this continuous cycle keeps on frustrating me. How can I once and for all master this?
