Nice video, thanks for the info. 🧠
ОтветитьSecond comment and 3rd like 🎉
ОтветитьThe biggest issue by far with coding bootcamps is the "promises" or "guarantees" they sometimes make of getting someone into a SWE job. Education providers should not make guarantees of employment. Universities don't, schools don't, and bootcamps shouldn't it's misleading and outright scammy. It leads people to paying for a bootcamp because they think it will get them into a high-paying career. Bootcamps are there to teach you coding, not to get you a job.
Ответитьis there any need to learn coding now?
ОтветитьAgree! Do you have a video of how you get good at data structure and algorithms?
ОтветитьFull disclosure: I'm an instructor at a coding bootcamp based in France, and I'm frankly quite taken aback by some of the practices you mentioned about US bootcamps (assuming that's what you're talking about).
But just in case some students (or prospective students) of mine end up watching this video, I'd like to say a few things about how it goes in France 😅
Obviously, not all bootcamps are created equal, so I'll be speaking about the one I work for. The main programs span over a period of roughly five months and costs about 8000$. Granted, that's a lot of money, especially considering the fact that wages tend to be lower in France, but the 5 figures numbers you mentioned, for an even shorter training, are honestly kinda terrifying 😳
We also give students the opportunity to continue on a work and study program that lasts 12 to 15 months, and the neat part is that the student gets a small salary and the government pays for the educational fees (and in some cases, the salary itself). It's beneficial to both the student/employee and the company, and it incentivizes the company to hire those work and study students. To sum up: in the best case, for 8000$, you can get a year and a half long training, including a year long actual hands-on work experience, for which you get a small salary.
You said something very interesting about being a professional developer, and it not being solely reliant on technical skills. I couldn't agree more, and that's why we provide students with career focused workshops where we help them crafting their resumes and professional looking GitHub pages, as well as developing the necessary soft skills for the job, with a heavy focus on agile/scrum methodology. We also conduct mock technical interviews with them.
Anyway, thanks for your video, it was very informative, and I love your shorts 😂
That is why i just learning by my own research ...
ОтветитьWhat would you recommend in my situation? I’m a father of two and a husband. I work second shift as a supervisor and I really don’t have a ton of time to invest into a boot camp (although I’d like to).
I’ve tried doing the self taught route and it’s just so difficult to stay on track.
I genuinely am looking to make a career shift into software development, but it’s so hard to find the time to learn it.
Im a career shifter attending Java Bootcamp right now. Its a 6-mon program w/ mentorship on code review, resume building, softskills and tech interviews. I'll get back to this comment once I get a tech job. I know its gonna be hard but wish me luck guys 😅😅😅
ОтветитьWe need your opinion on Devin asap 😅
ОтветитьI attended a popular bootcamp and I agree with you completely about the phony graduation rate. The bootcamps are lying to prospective students. Moreover, some of those who graduate don't complete all the required work, nor do they understand how to code or write good code.
Ответить"In 2024, Don't you dare join a a bootcamp, learn python, watch coding tutorials, get a job in tech, get a job at all. Don't even bother being alive at this point"
-Devslopes, probably.
so true totally agree i attended a bootcamp that was 8 month me and like 24 other students only 2 made it and laneded a job and it was me and an other guy but that guy was just talented he was always ahead of us seemed like he knew everything and didnt even need the bootcamp but for me i had to take other online courses and loads of hours and practice and still feel like an imposter
Ответитьhey, its my first time checking your video. thank you for the helpful video. more blessings to you :D
ОтветитьThis guy is mad because he spent 10x the amount of a boot camp just to get paid the same as a guy who joined a boot camp. 😂
