My friend stop praising Oman, Why are they enslaving people from other countries, now as I am writing this thousands of people mainly women are been sold into slavery. Presently my Country Liberia is working to bring back our women who went there for work, they treat them like animals they even kill some of them for no reasons. Those women was traffic there in the name of better paying jobs but now they keep them as slaves. You should also talk about the mad treatment of people from other countries and not just talking about the five star life. Very wicked people. All in the UAE migrant workers are been treated very badly. But you only talking about the good life of citizens. Be fair.

I'm very much impressed with Omani sultanate and, his government!! He allows women in government offices, obtain a divorce, etc. Also, I'm very impressed with their system of government and, how he is very forward thinking and, a TRUE progressive.

No poverty... that's not true. I lived in Oman for 2 years and it is a great country. However, there are a large number of ex patriate workers from India and the Phillipines that do experience poverty and unemployment. Maybe not officially, but certainly in reality. One construction company stopped building a hotel while I was there, leaving a large number of Indian construction workers living in the shell of a hotel they had built, without income for months. Food was donated, I believe largely by expatriate workers. But these workers were not only depending on their wages for their own existence, but also to send back to thier families in India. As I say, great country, but it isn't as perfect as you make it sound.

Can anyone apply for citizenship, or do you have to be "local" born. I have been to UAE, and only about 20 per cent are locally born, or are of Arabic decent. The local populace (locally born) are well looked after by the government. Do the many foreign born workers, etc... qualify for citizenship?

That's easy , instead of taxes you sell oil, and if you don't give away citizenship,you can easily say there are no homeless or poor citizens.
Unemployed people are thrown out of the country, that's the entire secret. People listening most often pay no attention to distinguish "citizen" from population.
As in all emirates, population without citizisenship are enormously high it's 50% in Oman, and 80% in Quatar.
It's not "good governance", to just use the birthrate and workforce of other countries, without allowing real migration with passing citizenship.

They still don't treat women very well though. I hear they're trying to make improvements, but their religious laws just don't allow for real fair treatment of women.

Oman is great! I didn't know they had so many perks. The people are so nice. I enjoyed visiting. The UAE takes good care of their citizens too, I know for a fact their people do not suffer at all and if they marry they get a large sum of money, and when they graduate high school they get a large sum of money.
