Heart😢broken for his family.Same thing happened to my husband's best friend, had his helmut on and someone turned in front of him😢.I know it won't bring Treat back but the driver who cut in front of him should be held accountable! Never should have happened.Yes,it is sad but nobody fails to mention the driver who just cut him off😢It happens a lot,I know of 4 people now who didn't have to die if the driver was more careful😢.

There have been so many stupid accidents with drivers making a turn in front of an oncoming motorcycle. It’s like they don’t recognize it’s a vehicle coming forward. I understand that’s why cyclists who ride together ride tandem which makes them a bigger object together for any oncoming traffic to see.
It’s either that or the driver of the car misjudges the speed of the oncoming motorcycle. This should not have happened. His poor family must be in total shock.

Beyond sad. Not being rude, at least Treat had a long life. Recently a young man of only 19, had the same item happen. On April 29, 2023…heard and saw the crash of a 19 year, flying into air. He hit a truck. Sad to say, I knew being a observer he was gone. Not taking away from sadness of Treat passing. But the 19 year old, dying is beyond sad. 😢

The first rule of driving is “ People are idiots, drive accordingly .”

Iow you should always drive like that cuz it’s not far from the truth . This is a perfect case in point . That’s why I don’t ride a motorcycle no matter how “ fun” it is —motorcycle driving breaks the first rule of driving .

If you really thought everyone you faced on the road was an idiot , would you really put an 800 lb piece of metal between you and 3-4-5000 lbs of hot garbage coming your way driven by an idiot many times a day ?

At least in a car you have 3-4-5000 lbs of your own metal around you , seat belts , air bags etc .

The first law of driving : that’s why I don’t walk too near the road , ride bicycles on the road , jog on a road or street etc .

EVERY motorcyclist thinks “ well that can’t happen to me cuz I’m too careful and observant—plus this is too fun.”

Ask his daughter how much “ fun “ it is to bury her father now..

The average motorcyclist has far more faith in human nature than I’ll ever have .

What a tragedy. I've loved his work and he has been a great addition to every cast. It is too bad he was on a Harley. They are the most ponderous, worst handling motorcycles made and he would have been better prepared to avoid an accident than the obsolete image machine. Harley - Davidson riders routinely say how they had to "lay it down" to save themselves, crash to avoid crashing because they brake so poorly the mistaken theory is you stop faster dragging on pavement. What really happens is the weak front brake makes riders mash on the rear, making the bike lose traction and lay down sliding. If they live HD nuts claim it was purposeful. In fact there is such short suspension travel that braking over multiple bumps bottoms it so the wheel locks as it is bounced like a ball and even the best rider cannot maintain control. Lean at an angle needed to avoid a crash or make a turn entered too fast and get dumped by dragging parts. Watch a Harley prep for turning, then reset as the cheap water pipe frame flexes like a palm tree in a hurricane.
While motorcycle fatalities dropped dramatically for decades the inexplicable resurgence of the now decades-obsolete vibrators has kept the death rate at a stubborn level.
I will always wonder if Treat would have been able to react correctly with the incredible precession of real motorcycles, brake effectively with a finger able to stand a decent bike on its nose or even use the immense and instantaneous power to avoid a situation too late for brakes as I have had to.
Of the friends Iost in car and bike crashes too many have been on Harleys that should stick to parades. Treat is another one.

I don't ride anymore (I'm 74), but for most of my riding years ( 40 or so) I was always ready for an oncoming car to turn left in front of me. But it's hard to be ready for a car changing lanes into your lane. I quit riding because of all the close calls. Most of them not my fault.
