I think my favorite part of all this the "Alt Sonic" arc. Some random writer on the team thought it was such a brilliant idea to officially call Classic Sonic now retconned to be from another dimention "Alt Sonic", and even have Tails himself boldly proclaim it to the rest of the characters ("That's right, I'm calling him Alt Sonic now!"), only for someone at SEGA to shoot him down the very next instance it's brought up ("Do not call him Alt Sonic.").

The idea of Silver telling Infinite that he's full of B.S makes me giggle and tells me it could have made the game way better

Honestly, a lot of the fuckery reads as if there was one or two guys on the japanese staff who did NOT speak enough english to have the job they had. A lot of their notes are stupid and time wasting requests for clarification. The line about the "well oiled machine" comes to mind. If you don't speak enough english to know, maybe ask someone who does and/or NOT make an entire production note about it??

This is actually quite an upsetting behind-the-scenes look at this game. It's so odd how some people, like Aaron, are calling out the story's flaws only to get ignored. Then, when the game released, the stuff they pointed out is some of the most remembered parts of this game. It's interesting to think about if this carried on to the rest of the game. Now, I don't think this game would've been good but it could've been better than how it ended up.

That Tails dying bit is so funny to me. "Yes, he will meet Sonic in the afterlife." is a crazy line. It feels like something that would come out of a gag story.

That's the thing about these kinds of stories, if you pull your punches you're not going to build anything compelling for the viewer
I swear to god i want to sit down with the writers and directors and educate them on how to tell a proper story

Im sorry but the fact that Iizuka doesn't know what Cocoa Island is.... absolutely baffling. He's had some takes about sonic over the years that i now take with some heavy doses of salt with a take like that

Sonic forces had the best concept in the series if they made the game more serious and longer like sonic frontiers this game could’ve been easily the best or atleast better than the garbage we received

I love the fact that Arron Webber saw all the massive plot issues in the original that made it in, specifically the ones the fans complained about. He didn't have much say ultimately but he did use the little influence he had as best he could.

I don't understand what the vision was here, make a game about war that can't as much as mention being cut... but characters are also tortured???

"he doesn't need to say Omega used to work, the player already knows that" the intent was obviously not to inform, he sounded much more desperate in the original script, and the fact they didn't do the equations because "uhhh too complex" is genuinely disappointing. what?????

I wish they incorporated more elements that really showed the player that Eggman has well and truly taken over. Maybe bring back the Eggman intercoms from Sonic Colors (with dialouge to suit the situation of course) or plaster his face everywhere with posters and giant screens with stuff like "EGGMAN IS WATCHING." Just a buncha 1984 Big Brother crap, y'know? They really needed to SHOW that this is Eggmanland on a Global Scale, rather than just telling us on a single screen of dialogue.

The inclusion of Mephiles would have been interesting

Bruh, I zoned out for a moment and thought I was listening to a Filmento video until I realized that Filmento doesn't make any videos on video games

Assuming that the script it’s real,it really highlights how they really didn’t know much about the lore and how certain things were changed at the last minute.

Which also explains why some of the tie-in comics explained said issues like Silver being there for no reason (which was likely because they didn’t even know Future was from the future to begin with),Infinite being a mercenary and not Eggman’s creation,multiple Phantom Rubies existing instead of just the one from Mania,etc.

I figured this version of the story would be much darker, but honestly, it was pretty identical in tone... maybe even a little more light-hearted! Kinda funny that after all these years of us dreaming about the darker grittier version that we assumed was cut, it turns out that the original was also a trainwreck. I love this dumpster fire of a game :)

This game had the perfect opportunity to really dive into tails' psyche after Sonic supposedly dies. A subplot where Tails is demoralized after letting Sonic get attacked without helping him; he could refuse to help the resistance because he worries he'll make everything worse. The resistance suffers from this, as Tails' technical prowess is absent from their plans, a lot of people die, one of the characters in the supporting cast gets critically injured, forcing a confrontation between Tails and either Amy or Knuckles where they tell him that he has to move past this. They say they miss Sonic too, but this war they're in is way bigger than them, and the last thing they can afford is to do nothing. They tell Tails that more fighters are dying, and that one of their friends has been badly wounded. This pushes Tails to move past the grievances and agrees to rejoin the fight. Shortly after, Sonic returns, and Tails is overjoyed.

It sounds me kinda like the decision to dial back the tone was made before the 'draft' was even finished. Of course, how much of that is due to the stupidly inflexible demands of the big bosses is up for debate. If he's never allowed to show any negative emotions, Sonic is boring. If nothing drastic is ever allowed to happen to him, Sonic is uninteresting with zero stakes.

It almost feels like I could've written this game's story better, though I'd have to be given the freedom from those character constraints to do it, and it would certainly get the T rating.

I'd always thought that having Sonic be shaken mentally and doubting himself from his mistreatment in captivity would be interesting to work with. Considering the fact this is basically the Hero's Journey for the Avatar more than it is a Sonic story, it's not hard to see how you could work in (Modern) Sonic rebuilding himself while working with the Avatar, seeing the same level of determination he once had. Hell, with this, you could even make Classic being shoehorned in make some sense, as he could help remind Modern of who he used to be.

Then again, I'd also be making sure to really sell precisely how brutal and competent this iteration of Eggman is, starting with the moment of Sonic's capture at the end of the relevant scene. You wouldn't get to see it, of course, but you'd definitely hear Eggman injuring Sonic's legs in some manner, right in front of the gathered crowd, as one extra morale-breaking twist of the knife (if you really need Sonic back for Stage 5/Boss 1, six months would be time enough for it to heal) before hauling him off. Since Tails is right there too, this would give a clear reason for his mental breakdown.

As it stands, they just lacked the courage to give the story any real stakes, and it shows.

And yet people says this is better than 06 yeah sorry but no 06 is better in the long run at lest the villains were entertaining and shown to be at least competent well infinite eggman to be the absolute opposite like wow force is just a horrible story that bastardize the characters and idiots like tehspudz try to defend it on Tumblr or Twitter is really speaking sources quality of writing like wow this is why the idw comics are better than this garbage

It's funny how the sa2 and unleashed videos have nocriticisms or aknowledgement of the criticisms those 2 games got, but here the snark and complaining are unhinged here in the first few minutes.

Since the next video will be comparing the differences between SA2 and SA2B (will probably be like 1h30m in length), and since I have to lock in for uni in January, I may not upload another video until the end of that month / start of February, even if doesn't really give me any time to take a break. I can still edit a little bit every day as I've been doing, but it won't be as fast as I'd wish.
