You can rock it, you can roll it! One of my all time favorite songs. We used to dance at house parties, over at friend's houses or at the donut shop. Danced all the time. Loved your reactions to this. Had lots of fun with you two tonight.
ОтветитьSimpler times.
ОтветитьBoy Bands are just an old idea come around again.
ОтветитьYou two are so cute. Quite the fun couple.
Ответитьripppppiinnnnnnnnn ty ty ty
ОтветитьAlways loved this. Awesome!!!
ОтветитьEARLY '58, i WAS 11 Y/O, IN 6TH GRADE, & IN JUST ABOUT 3 MONTHS I WOULD DISCOVER GIRLS ! ----------These guys were American Bandstand favorites. ---------------MJL< 75 y/o
ОтветитьYou guys are great! Notice how most of what your listening to has real singers, not poetry readers.
ОтветитьDanny Rapp had a rough life after their two biggest hits. They were very young when they recorded this, he was 16. They songs were released again and topped Uk charts in the ‘70s. Unfortunately Danny commuted suicide in 1983. Suite wish things had turned out better for him. Rock on Danny!
ОтветитьAND THEN ALONG CAME ELVIS...
ОтветитьWhen all these vocal groups practiced and polished up a song before going into a recording studio, they sang it acapella, no instrumental accompaniment, on the street, in a hallway, someone's house, wherever. It would've blown your minds to have been at a good doo-wop group's practice and actually FEEL the magic of their harmony being created in midair right in front of you. Back in the day,, I did that at least a hundred times.
ОтветитьA hop was a school dance but not the prom.
ОтветитьReminds me of the great dances at Riverdale Collegiate in Toronto way back in the early 1960's. Good memories.
ОтветитьNothing like the great music from the early 1960's.
ОтветитьIf you want to hear some good 50's music, watch American Graffiti. Music and story is great.
ОтветитьThis sure brings back the memories! Take off those saddle shoes!
ОтветитьPoodle skirts with lots of slips or tight skirts, Bobby socks and penny loafers were the outfits we wore while dancing to this. Such fun times. 💃🏽💃🏽🔥🔥
ОтветитьI was 15/16 in 1958. We had “Teen Town.” My mother insisted that I go. I hated it; I was afraid of boys and I couldn’t dance. 😢
ОтветитьSock Hop, kick your shoes off and dance!
ОтветитьThe hop...school sock hop!!
ОтветитьThis is my fav 1 2 watch + how u guys react 2 this njoy watching g u better than the video back story here it was called at the bop + the legendary duck Clark suggested they change it 2 at the hop + the rest is history
ОтветитьGreat
Ответить58 I was 9yrs old but still remember it well. Back then this music was only on AM radio
ОтветитьSomething added to songs geared toward dancing at that time were the names of the dances that kids were doing. For some reason it would always bring the song up in sales.
ОтветитьWhite rap
ОтветитьSuggestion for you the song, "This Is Decayed To The One I Love!", By The Temprees, (The Long version)
ОтветитьThe actual "Hop" was usually a roadside restaurant with plenty of parking. You could get burgers, hot dogs, chicken, pizza, malts, shakes, floats, and ice cream sundaes. There were the classic chrome swivel stools to sit on in the front, and many of them had a separate area with speakers that they would clear out on a Friday and Saturday night for some dancing. Good tunes, good food, good vibes, and good times back then. Doo wop was an all-american invention. 🇺🇸
ОтветитьI was 15 y/o, the schools had SOCK/HOPS in the gym. Playing all the TOP 10 records. Many times local bands would play LIVE @ the hops.
Safe, sane, fun for teenagers!! Dance the night away 🎶 ✨️
No guys NOT at a club--------at a sock hop ---------High School;s had them all the time. Originally, the lyrics were " do the Bop" , as it was a new dance craze, but Dick Clark told the guys to try saying " At The Hop " , & those lyrics were even better, & so it was ! all over late '57, early '58. ----------------MJL, 76 y/o
ОтветитьThat piano.
ОтветитьShawn and Mel: Enjoyed your enthusiasm as you were reacting to Danny & The Juniors.
ОтветитьCool time in music
ОтветитьThe 50s were incredible guys.. American Graffiti is a good flick and highly recommended. Danny sure killed it back then but let's not forget Bill Haley had been game way before Lol. Keep on hitting those 50s guys.. not sure if you have covered the Platters but it's a must!
Ответить"Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" -- same group
ОтветитьPlease forgive this 70 year old's observation here but WHAT A SHAME that young kids (kids in high school) today can no longer go to their high school gym, be asked to remove their shoes so they won't scuff up the gym floor, and dance (and jump?) around in their socks "at their HS sock hop"... Sure it was a time of innocence... But no one was getting shot... No one was there looking for a fight... Just friendship and fun (and, if one were really lucky, a goodnight HUG from a HS sweetheart?)... There's something to be said about growing up "naive" back in the late 50's and early 60's... It is too bad so many kids these days will never experience that "innocence of youth"...
ОтветитьWas going to be called “At the Bop” 😮but, TV host Dick Clark, had them change it! Because he figured that lots of people, wouldn’t know that Slang 😅
ОтветитьIf you can’t dance get off the floor and make room for those who can.
Ответитьcheers
ОтветитьI was born in '53, and in the mid-sixties my junior high school had a Friday "sock hop" once a month. You couldn't wear your street shoes on the gym floor so you had to leave your shoes in the hall. I was a nerdy little girl, but my (some nerdy, some with a little more panache!) friends and I sure went to the sock hops! No swing dancing then, sadly, but some of the popular dances were the Mashed Potato, the Swim, the Pony, the Twist and the Jerk. Lots of fun.
ОтветитьYou two are way more fun to watch than the video when u play 50/60's music !
ОтветитьThe hop was a highschool dance
ОтветитьI want to know if you've ever seen this music danced to? Hearing is one thing but these kids could really move!
Ответить"who says "white boys can't dance" ... I'm callin' for a dance off, lol! Great post!!
ОтветитьLoved going to the Hop every weekend in the school hall, the parish hall. Great times not like today.
