Since your a real estate company and everyone contacts y’all about buying land to shoot on, why don’t you do a video on building a range at home. I just purchased land to shoot on and it’s been hard to find anyone who talks about building a private shooting range. Thank y’all for all the great content, I’ve really enjoyed your channel!

A lot of your pros/cons are based around the assumption that you only have like 1-2 seconds to react to something. While that may be the case, ideally you should have layers of defensive systems around the house that a potential intruder would have to pass before even getting to your front/back door and trying to actually break in. Things like sensors, cameras, lights, alarms, dogs, etc that would ideally notify you quite a bit ahead of time even if it's 3am. In that assumption, you should have enough time to put on whatever you need to put on (ear pro, belt, armor, holster, what have you, etc.) before facing the threat.

Why are you maneuvering in the first place? Let's just assume there's no children in the house, or the children aren't between you and the bad guy--or let's say there are children--get them into the master bedroom and barricade the door. Don't try to be some Delta Force Operator clearing the house with your CQB skills. Just call 911, be prepared to fire on the person who broke into your home but stay in one room with your firearm aimed at the door.

Communicate to 911 where in the house you are and tell them the door is barricaded. I'm of the opinion that these kinds of skills are important for everyone in the house to have--i.e. you should do home intruder drills like once a year. The kids should know that their job is to get to the master bedroom or to barricade their own doors if that's not possible.

But if you don't have kids...just grab your gun and lay in bed like you're asleep while calling the cops. They're not gonna go bankrupt from shooting the guy who broke in your house and they're already wearing ballistic armor. Also it puts the home owner at risk to be sneaking through the house gun drawn if they call 911. It is VERY easy for the cop to accidently fire on you thinking you're the home invader.

Be smart. Have a plan. Practice the plan. Execute the plan. Don't go on the offensive, go on the defensive. That's why its called HOME DEFENSE. Stay in one room, barricade the door, etc. If you have kids get them into that room and then shelter in place until the cops come. This comment may not be the badass thing to do, but it's the best thing to do in almost every scenario. Our system punishes home defenders even when they're found to have acted within the confines of the law. You very well could go bankrupt(not a bad idea to carry insurance for this btw) and you could even go to jail or worse-prison.

You should also do fire drills from time to time and statistically a fire is more likely than a home invasion. I suggest having multiple fire extinguishers in the home.

Just have a dedicated home defense handgun with a suppressor and keep it that way, it lives like that. If you absolutely love the gun just get a second and do what you like with it.

My house is a “shoes off when you enter” situation, so I use legos and jacks as an early warning system, did some test runs on the wife, by the cursing of my total existence at 3am I can verify the efficacy of this security strategy. Plus my ice cream doesn’t magically disappear anymore.

Just because its so, doesn't mean its right that people get bankrupted after a justified self defense shooting. Its kinda like getting insurance for something that is a god given right, shows how fucked the system is at this point. They have all but won on that front.

Great advice on avoiding a gunfight at all costs. Criminals have nothing to lose so they will shoot without remorse. You have to worry about making a legal shot, not shooting your family, over penetration. Even if you're on the right, your life will change after the shooting. Not unless your family is being kidnapped or assaulted keep your finger off the trigger. Those things that an intruder might take from your garage, are not worth changing your families life. If you are in jail you can no longer protect them. Make your choices wisely

I really think people over estimate how much of a problem “over penetration” is with a rifle. Even with an fmj and typical drywall, it won’t go through more than one wall. And if you use open tip ammo you’re far less likely to over penetrate because those rounds fragment on impact. Maybe some shrapnel gets through a wall and that’s fair but not a full tumbling round.

Best of both worlds is what I run. A p320 in a flux defender chassis. Can run with the stock closed and use as a pistol 1 handed and still maneuver family around. And when you need to pop the stock out. It’s great. I recommend trying it out sometime if you’ve never used one

Depends on when you're aware you have a problem:
1. You hear them breaking in - AR pistol 300 BO
2. They're in your bedroom - Full size autoloader with a weapon light
3. You wake up with somebody beating the crap out of you - 9mm compact from under your pillow- close range mag dump time...
Re: can on a pistol turns it into a long lever that can work against you. Also holding it out ahead of you gives them something to grab or bat away.
Best to have a dog that sleeps in your room for earliest alert/situational awareness.

By the way - outstanding video intro. Somebody has got some serious content creation chops.

Well said, regarding the importance of avoiding gun altercations. Some folks need to trade the bravado and big talk for some serious thought about situational awareness, conflict avoidance, non-lethal deterrents, etc.

Also, it's hard to overstate the benefit of the stability of a rifle or even a PCC in a high stress situation. Points of contact and the nature of a good grip and stance can help one avoid life and death mistakes when the adrenaline is running. Of course, being well trained is of utmost importance, but even in the hands of a lesser trained individual/family member, a rifle can be a difference maker.

Regarding maneuverability, that used to be a bigger deal to me than it is today. For one thing, we are talking about working in our homes and we should know our homes backwards and forwards and have a plan for if the shtf--one that doesn't default to a gun fight and includes multiple less lethal deterrents and obstacles. That is, our system should already take into account the doors and paths we may need to address and a good plan can go a long way to limiting the possible advantage of a shorter gun. Also, and this is a BIG one, if at all possible we should not be clearing our entire house if we know there are assailants present. Ideally we should be securing our loved ones and hunkering down in a safe space waiting for back-up. Yes, there are ALWAYS "what if" scenarios, but a huge number of them can be completely avoided by setting things up wisely and having a plan ahead of time. If your kids are on the opposite side of the house, perhaps in a one story home, then ya, you're going to have potential problems--this is why I won't purchase a home that puts me in that situation. Again, I know there are exceptions and circumstances, but this is just an example of how "far back" one should ideally be thinking when planning to protect and defend loved ones. And if you don't think there is an intruder but you need to make sure and so you need to clear the whole house, a clearing strategy, alternate alarms and deterrents, and a couple of good dogs can get you there much safer. :)

One last reason to have numerous alarms and deterrents in place is because with even a few extra moments of warning you can definitely equip yourself with shoes and pants which you should have ready by your bedside. :)

Going hands on with a pistol merely turns the pistol as a pair of brass knuckles. I's rather be struck with a fist or foot than with a 2 pound metal hammer or in this case a pistol. I understand your point about not being able to sling a pistol, but frankly I'm not sure I'd chose to get rid of that club in my hand if I had to tangle with someone.

Good points for both pistol and PCC. I'd opt for a pistol simply for the fact that you need to have it stored locked in a safe. e.g. 1 gun "compact" safe from Vaultek. WHether or not you have family or not. Donm't want home invaders accessing the gun sitting on top the night stand in plain sight.

Or, unless we have custom furniture made with hidden comparentments that can accomadate a PCC w// Can.....or a shotgun or rifle.....I'd stick with a pistol. Thugh i would argue rifles are desgined for "dtance/accuracy"..likely to over-penetrate and not maneuverable in CQB---in home.

This is assuming the intgruders managed to deactivte the home security alarm....:) IF htey hacen't and we have enough advanced warning and CAN get to our big as a fridge gun safe....THEN I'd grab a shotgun AND pistol/in holster.....or a PCC w/ Can....

Depends on the scenario...there have been cases in my city of home owners being awakened wth the intruder already standing over them....just jayin\ (Adon't recal the details...how the intruders ninja into the house unheard....)Even if the hance for an home invasion is 1 in a milon.... as liely as winning a lottery...

I think if they were easy to acquire, select fire SMGs would be the best option for home defense.

A pistol held at arms length or an SBR will never be as compact as an SMG.

Select fire SMGs, given modern, controllable designs, are objectively the most intuitive way to put multiple rounds on target in a small window. A controlled 3-5 round burst from a quick trigger pull of an SMG at close range is going to fuck someone up really bad and the hit probably against vitals will be superior than one trigger pull and a single shot from an SBR.
