Great, let’s ignore the fact that all the countries mentioned by Jeffrey Sachs had applied for admission to NATO. Why? Perhaps all of these countries wanted protection from Russian aggression. Should they have denied them because Putin might get upset? They are a defensive body. So what if Victoria Nuland had a time table for NATO membership. Most executives speculate about future decisions. It’s absurd to keep arguing this.

The Nuland phone call was not a “plan for the post yanukovych government” but for a compromise government that would involve some people from the opposition while yanukovych remained in power. Events obviously outpaced these plans for a “compromise” government.

The Clinton Administration was a total disaster and gave birth to many calamitous events down the road. Deregulating Wall St. gave us 2008 financial collapse, reckless NATO expansion gave us Cold War 2.0, Free Trade gave us the de-industrialization of America and turned China into a world power. Attacking the poor with Welfare reform and sanctions on Iraq that killed 500,000 Iraqi children. I could go on but I can't think of one thing the Clintons did that made Americans better off.

NATO expansion is the only thing that has kept Putin's genocidal hands off of Poland and the other former Warsaw Pact nations.

NATO long planned to expand? Yes. Fine. Putin planned to expand Russia's sphere of influence? Yes. Fine. But Putin invaded and annexed to achieve his plans. Not fine.

Is there any good reason for NATO to include ever more nations? How about that NATO nations have not gone to war with each other in 70+ years. Would NATO have accepted Russia eventually if Russia wanted in bad enough? What would have been the down side to NATO of that?
