We will probably see more of Sheriff Joe Arpaio types in Texas. He used to go around arresting Hispanics in Maricopa county in Arizona without regard to whether they were born in the United States or not. That was his name to fame. Texas has been shipping migrants to NYC and other states. Now they want to deport migrants to where? Mexico already said they will not agree to take deportees from Texas government. It's expensive then to fly deportees to other countries. It's not just Hispanics coming through. There are Africans from Senegal, Mali. etc. And others from around the world. Is Texas going to start printing money to pay to fly these people out? Once you detain them you have to provide them food and medical care while in their possession.

The biggest problem fueling the illegal border crossings are the sanctuary cities...so long as they are open and allowed there will be an incentive to cross the border. Worse, these sanctuary cities count the illegals in the upcoming census...and can gain congressional seats based on population...this must be ended; it is unfair and under handed to American Citizens and those that have gone through the process and struggle to earn the right be be here legally as an American

In my opinion, it's controversial in the aspect of a lot of attention is on the illegal side of immigration. While the system to come in legally to the US is very flawed. The citizenship test isn't anything to do with our laws, how taxes and courts work, how to be functional in out society.
Its "how many amendments does the constitution have?", how is that effective?

I'm all in for not have illegal immigration, but I also think I would benefit not only the ones trying to really find the American Dream in getting citizenship, but also allow them to better the society they wanted to join.
If we worked on both sides of the immigration making sure that it's not possible to illegally come but also not ridiculous to go through the legal process, we might actually solve more.

There is a numerical limit on immigrants allowed to stay each year. Some are given green cards that help the economy because jobs need to be filled. 'Many Americans favor lower levels of immigration. They worry that new immigrants take jobs and reduce pay. They also fear that the new arrivals can change a nation’s culture. Immigration, especially the illegal kind, has fueled political instability around the world. Racism and xenophobia also play a role.
But immigration has benefits. It has helped keep America’s economy ahead of its peers’ in the aftermath of the pandemic, as my colleague Lydia DePillis wrote. Without more immigrants, the economy and social programs could suffer in the coming decades. The U.S. could follow the path of other economies that have stagnated along with their population levels, such as Japan and potentially China.'
I see now where the Texas law could be in violation of federal immigration laws. The immigrants have a year to apply for asylum, whether legal or illegal, under federal law. But 'Under SB 4, if Texas police arrest a migrant before they surrender to Border Patrol, immigrants who apply for asylum and are researched by federal agents for criminal histories could be subject to removal from the United States if charged with the new state crime.' In other words, the application for asylum would be negated.
And they could be held up to a year in jail under SB 4.
