I think Metalsub should embrace a more liberal approach to batteries.
First it was factory sealed - meaning not only was travel almost impossible, but then you couldn't swap out the battery between dives. When you do 4 or 5 dives a day, you would need to be able to swap out batteries.
They've done away with that now but the battery setup looks proprietary - meaning you couldn't purchase standard 26650 spare batteries because the Metalsub looks like the batteries are connected in a sheath (maybe in parallel or in series?).
I am unsure whether one could simply purchase 2 standard 26650 and stick them in there.
Something for your friend to think about.

the torch died prior to a dive so will let you know how their customer services respond and rectify the issue. so far I emailed them this morning and had replies already so its being posted back today. if they give good service then this is a good reason to buy metalsub as you buy with confidence of after service
