Disallowed Kevin Keegan 'goal' 81/82 v Manchester United

The halycon days! I was 10 at the time and thought Saints would always be that good. Went to nearly every home game that season :)

All the reports today are about Rooney's goal against Man City. Sky news for nearly an hour...YAWN YAWN!!!!!!! This was better but never counted due to ref's being pro united ... Some things never change!

Goal would have stood if the rule of not interfering with play had been introduced. You can see why that rule is a sensible one, old skool footballers had it hard lol

Great seeing this clip. Brings back a very fond memory. I was only 12 at the time and in the Milton End Terrace behind the goal when it was scored. You can imagine the impression it made on me as young boy. Sad it was given offside but Saints went on to win 3-2 with the winning goal scored by... David Armstrong. One of the best matches I've ever been to.

nope, why would it be when keegan hit the shot? no other players were involved once that happened. it had to have been when the pass was crossed, and he wasn't offside. no offsides at that moment, goal should have stood

Whoops! My Dad was the Linesman!! To be fair Keegan did sign my programme afterwards!

You could even argue that Armstrong and Gidman are level at the precise moment Keegan's foot connects, but even that was offside pre-1992 or whenever it was, disregarding 'interfering with play'. It's a wonder any goals were scored in the 80s.

Am a Pompey fan, but at the time, thought it one (if not the) of the best goals I've ever seen. (Did actually feel quite gutted for Keegan!).

Jobsworth officials..even back then. Worse than traffic wardens..

What an astonishing elegant curvy shot. Look at Keegan's body tilts 180 deg elegantly while having a contact with the ball with complete synchronisation right on the exact spot to send strongly that fabulous curvey ball to the top corner, impossible for the keeper.

Remember seeing this at the time - amazing athleticism!
