looking forward to seeing you play elite dangerous in 2014 i will be
ОтветитьHopefully Elite:Dangerous will capture the 'magic' of this and the original Elite. If they can replicate that intangible feeling you get when playing this game than David Braben will have outdone himself yet again. Great series by the way!
ОтветитьThank you, this series made me able to enjoy Frontier. I was just in awe of how utterly beautifull this game is when i first saw it and needed to try it. Again, thanks!
ОтветитьYeah I can't wait. Maybe I'll see you out there :)
ОтветитьAh, well I'm glad you found it. Hope you do indeed enjoy it. It's probably the series I'm most proud of.
ОтветитьI hope so and I'm optimistic. There have been many pretenders but none have managed to recapture it.
ОтветитьYou're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the series :)
ОтветитьGreat series Jim, watched the whole thing this morning and afternoon. Just out of interest, why Elite 2 and not Frontier: First Encounters? Anyway, it's May now so it's high time you provided us with your assassination videos :)
ОтветитьThanks, glad you enjoyed it :) My intent is to cover First Encounters in a later video, since it's much the same game with extra stuff.
ОтветитьThanks. I needed this.
ОтветитьYou're welcome.
ОтветитьThanks for these Good Job on all of them. I've been playing FFED3D lately and these tutorials were really useful for things like Gas Giant Skimming and exploration (I dare you to do a sun skim). I prefer the combat in FFE with the lateral thrusters modification. It makes the game feel a little bit more like IW2 (Independance War 2) and so the combat is more accessible. Hopefully I'll see you online when Elite 4 is live. Keep up the good work.
ОтветитьI really wish I could enjoy this game. But sadly one of its most impressive features, the realistic Newtonian physics, is what keeps turning me off of the entire game.
ОтветитьYou're welcome, glad you're enjoying the series. I've never been able to sun skim. I never tried the lateral thrusters modification but that sounds brilliant. Strafing finally!
ОтветитьI guess maybe Newtonian physics is a marmite thing.
ОтветитьStrafing makes it a completely different game, and with all the fixes done by frontier and third parties, I'd even say that First Encounters is finally the superior game to Frontier.
ОтветитьI suppose so, there doesn't seem to be much middle ground. Thanks for responding to my comments by the way, it's really refreshing to find someone so involved with their audience.
ОтветитьOh you're welcome. I figure if someone takes the time to make a comment the least I can do is reply, especially if it's complimentary :) I've been slower to respond to comments as my channel has grown. I hope I will be able to keep up.
ОтветитьWhat a superb series. Well done indeed.
ОтветитьThanks :D
ОтветитьWonderful opening for a great series! Thank you, I love the Frontier Fundamentals.
ОтветитьElite : Dangerous (beta) is back...
ОтветитьAre you Beckham?
ОтветитьAre you Beckham?
ОтветитьThe colors and visuals, with slightly better graphics it could be mistaken for a really good indie game. This game is amazing and has aged pretty well imo.
ОтветитьJim, I would have to disagree, I think this game would suit a traditional let's play to a tee, play it and see where it leads you..I as well as many others no doubt would love that approach and You Tube is sorely lacking in LP material on Frontier...
ОтветитьI'll be watching these. Planning to play this game soon for how well made it was for its time.
Nice use of KSP music too~
Next to Total annihilation my favorite....Well except for First encounters....Even with their bugs they are loads of fun and adventure....
Ответитьnitpick: Mal isn't a pilot :)
ОтветитьSo now that you're a bit burnt out on some of the aspects of Elite Dangerous, how do these two games rank?
ОтветитьWould you like the manual for Carrier command? I'll send it to you .....?
ОтветитьIt hasn't aged well. I say that as a fanboy if it too. The gameplay has aged well but the tech has not. A great game which, sadly, was not coded optimally for the amiga. The atari was better coded for. This game was not coded well for the blitter to avoid the penalties on CPU cycles, and it didn't recognise many people would have an FPU (in 16bit or 32bit machines). The a1200 could even have an FPU soldered on the board. Mind you, the a1200 really should have had two 68020 CPUs (maybe with a custom MMU) and an FPU, plus the akiko (and an extra blitter and exra akiko would not have gone amiss).
Open source accellerator boards will fix those missing features (which will be enabled or disabled in a menu upon boot) with CDBooting allowed too. It doesn't matter to much if amigaOS fails to pick up the slck on that because BSD (and linux) will be compatile for it, and in any case, many amiga games did not require the OS at all.
Thankfully this game has been remade and cloned as FOSS many times for many systems (including unix style systems).
As an aside many other games, remade or cloned for amiga and PC etc are on websites such as "artishq. wordpress. com" and "osgameclones. com", the latter of which appear often on linux distros.
While I also really like many of your other videos, The Frontier Fundamentals series is in my opinion by far your best work, Jim. It's not only very informative to complete newcomers and rusty veterans alike, but also entertaining, while having the right length in runtime. The series indeed shows how very much you enjoyed this game throughout the years and that it's one of these games that many people feel personally connected to with good memories. If you are ever bored or have no idea what new content to upload to your channel, I'm sure many of your viewers would join you again on a new season of deep-space adventuring ! ;)
ОтветитьI am a huge fan of Frontier: First Encounters. Haven't tried Elite 2. Is there anything about it that's fundamentally better than FFE?
ОтветитьPermit me to thank you for this incredible and professional JOB. I must admit that my name "Marco Plays Dos Games" has taken inspiration by yours. I consider myself a professional Dos gamer and this Elite 2 series is simply amazing. Yestersay i went to sleep very late to see your videos. Yes it's an old series that you did some years ago, I promised myself to take my time to watch it and finally i have this time. THANK YOU MY FRIEND, I love you. Join me on Facebook, it would be a great honour for me
Ответитьman I love your voice it is so wonderful and soothing that's why I have watched every single frontier video, keep up the excellent work
ОтветитьI love that music use din kerbal space program it is very good for free licence
ОтветитьCant count how many hours of my life i spend with this Game. Still play it from Time to Time on my A1200.
ОтветитьIm watching the whole of this series again in 2020 lockdown keep up the excellent work bruh
ОтветитьAndroid plis
ОтветитьBoring bounty missions killed the game for me, no patient enough! ^ I have a lot of money, I'm "competent" but that's all...
ОтветитьI found a (some?) cheat(s) for this game years ago. I sent them to Amiga Format, but my explanation was so bad it made no sense LOL It lets you increase your cargo capacity far beyond what was meant and then fit a much larger drive than you should. This then lets you jump to other systems extremely fast. So, with your new super fast ship, if you leave dock whilst you are in the process of delivering packages will then allow you to arrive in the next system and deliver packages there without docking, then jump to next system and deliver packages there without docking and on and on
ОтветитьSomeone help me. I keep getting a message from the police saying they are doing spot checks to see if you're a rightful owner of the ship you are flying. After getting this message a certain amount of times they kill you. I assume this is an anti piracy measure since I downloaded the game for free. I can't find anywhere to buy the game and the source I downloaded the zip from seemed legit. But I keep getting the same message, I've downloaded 3 different versions and still have the same issue
ОтветитьYou earned my sub just for including the absolute shiniest sci fi quote about flying.
ОтветитьWhat version of the game is this? Amiga500, Amiga 1200 or PC? Thank you! I’have seen all your Frontier Fundamentals videos! Great!
ОтветитьRIP to all who tried to play "Carrier Command" without guidance xd
ОтветитьI grew up in the middle of the US and Amiga anything was a scarce as latinum. I never got to play this game, but when we visited Chicago I could buy Amiga Power and such and remember all the articles. You have a wonderful series!
ОтветитьTeach me, Senpai
Ответитьrewatching again in 2025 January 2rd, why? because this series is absolutely awesome
Ответитьfor some reason, this video is sideways
