ОтветитьI don't even really care/think it is needed if sonic physics aren't perfectly genesis accurate (I'd just play sonic 1-3 and hacks if I wanted that anyway lol) cus despite loving the classic era i wouldn't mind stuff like faster walking or higher jump or faster rolling and such, as long as it's fun and satisfying to control
ОтветитьSorry, but Utopia still doesn't convince me that Classic Sonic looks good in 3D. He still looks odd. I like Classic Sonic, but his design doesn't work in 3D, and that design wouldn't work with Shonen type stories. They made the right move when they changed his design.
ОтветитьSrb2 is personally my favourite video game, since its pretty much everything i want out of a Sonic game + a ridiculously good modding scene. Theres a lot of stuff going on with how the game deisgns and does stuff that i feel many people don't aprreciate or realise, maybe I should make my own channel or something.

ОтветитьIf people find RoboBlast’s level design confusing, then the devs “just” need to add markers on where to go forward, and what is backwards. How? Ring placement is good, but maybe not enough. They could always go for thematically fitting arrows, maybe with some green lights on them.

ОтветитьThanks for piecing together a moveset tweaks mod that makes the base characters feel more like how they would actually play in the Classic games! I do kinda wish you would also share a link to download it off the SRB2 website itself too for more convenience, but that's alright. Though to be fair I'm not quite familiar with how that website works when it comes to uploading stuff. I'm sure there's a lot of rules regarding that.
Anyways, I think it's fair to say that Triple Trouble 16-Bit and SRB2 are the only two fan games so far that feels like they would be official releases by Sega. I could easily see an alternate a timeline right now where we got 3&K and TT16B as releases for the Sega Neptune and Sonic Mania Plus Addendum and SRB2 with some mods on the Sega Saturn. Maybe if that happened we would've not only just got the two Adventure games, but also maybe a third one and some other games that are more closer to Utopia and GT. It's not like all the games after Adventure 2 couldn't exist in tandem either, especially the handheld ones. For example I can also still see the Boost games with Unleashed, Colors, and Generations also still happen more so as side experiments, and most other bad games like Sonic 06, Lost World, and Forces would never exist. And then the return to 2D with something like Superstars could've been even more colorful than what we got with it and even Mania.
Oh I wish so much that we lived in that world. If only both sides of Sega wasn't so incompetent with their marketing strategies and internal conflicts. The gaming landscape could've potentially been a lot more interesting and less strict…
Hey Sega actually made something not exactly like this but similar enough, sonic fronteirs has full free roam 3D sonic experience so if you want this free roam 3D style where it's basically a big playground, then try sonic fronteirs

ОтветитьI thought no one felt the same about Sonic’s air dash being broken, it’s so hard to use and really feels out of place In srb2 so I’m glad the drop dash mod exists because it feels so much better

ОтветитьI love what you said when you were talking about with sonic Utopia, i really do love this new "3d Momentum" type of game design. I think that Sega keeps going with the Sonic Adventure Formula because they got used to it and dont want to innovate out of fear of breaking things. Ive heard that Sonic Frontires is actually really difficult at times so i dont think Sega uses the adventure formula out of accessability. Although i Disagree with you on Airdrag. I think its tons of fun flying through the air as sonic and skipping certain parts of a level. SOnic GT Levels are very open ended like the classic sonic games with multiple different routes to take and so missing part of a level isnt a big deal in my opinion. Also you completely forgot to talk about Metal Sonic. Hes honestly my favourite character and i think he has the best special move out of all the characters.

ОтветитьI've never heard a take on 3D Sonic games that I can relate to so much. The sheer amount of level space that is a death-pit in the games from Adventure onwards just feels empty and railroads the player entirely too much.
I'll never understand why Sonic Team didn't explore Robo Blast 2 style games as a development of the 'Classic' line of games.
It's so cool that this has been ported to 32x, but I'd love to see this ported to Saturn just to scratch that itch from almost 30 years ago.
I just so happened to be nearing the end of a Fang playthrough of SRB2. The mod in the spreadsheet is appreciated

this video misses sonic world dx it literally does the same thing as gens visits and remake old sonic stages but instead of boost and classic sonic the gameplay is adventure style it s on the same level as robo blast 2 in my opinion its insane

ОтветитьTo me it doesn't look like the lack of overbearing air drag is the problem, but rather that you're playing it the wrong way. * audience gasp *
I know, I know, to optimize your route, go flying, and finish the level ASAP; manual teleportation, even? But since you already go so fast... you put it right in utopia, really: "Make your own fun."
If you want to outright skip the level with all your speed as you take off, that's your choice. But if you want to experience the level design in a more leisurely ride, though still faster than sound if you keep paying attention to the road given that lack of air drag, jumping from route to route, you can do that too. It's just that you chose the "FASTER FASTER FASTER" Red Flood France route for your sample gameplay.

But I’m just not into this formula I like my 3D Sonic levels not linear like Sonic teams recent games but not giant fucking spaces either
The adventure games for me strikes a nice level of platforming and speed and I know not everyone is going to agree which is fine that’s why these fan games are trying to do what people envision as their 3D Sonic, it’s just not MY 3D Sonic lmao, but I hope people enjoy these
Sonic robo blast 2 does have a homing attack but it just works like Sonic 3D blast

Ответитьthat issue with ignoring COMPLETELY the level design in 3D sonic inspired games is also something i see a lot in lakefeperd games. like, don't get me wrong, his games are amazing and you should buy and play all of them, he is a brazilian too, and that's cool and all, but.. in his games (not only in spark 3 or 2, but in spark 1 too) you can ignore everything in the level (enemies, hazards, collectables, etc.) and something that doesn't help is the "gravity" ability on the first game, which you can fly over the level and ignore even more. also, there's absolutely NO incentive to kill enemies, you don't gain score, there's no combo meter, which means that most of the time, you'll be ignoring the entire level design. and the game lacks substance, meat, there's almost no enemies, and most enemies you find can be taken down in 1 hit. so yeah, i see many people complaining about the lack of air drag in 3d sonic inspired games and i thought it would be interesting to mention that, YES, spark 1 has that same problem too
edit: and smth that i also feel like talking about is how overpowered spark is (specially in spark 1). like, you know that meter you fill up the more you hit the boss? you can charge up and kill the boss instantly. and if it's not that, it's the boss fight being just mindless button mashing and waiting for the boss to attack so you have the opportunity to absolutely annihilate it
