So heartbreaking--at one time the SBC really stood for the truth and was a beacon for truth and missions. I have seen the downfall over the last 60 years. Satan is having his day!! Don't think he was not in this from the start!!! Beware all of Christ's Churches!!!!! Satan wants you, too!!! Oh, be watchful and stay the course of Jesus Christ!!!!

Finally! About time Josh. Let's hope more follow. Any conference who has in its ranks a fool like Greear or that detestable Russell Moore or that whimsy Ronny Floyd {a white man on the run} who refused to engage me over his woke cowardice is unworthy of the name Christian. The SBC is an abomination and the Sovereign grace Baptists who stay are worse for doing so. Leaving the SBC is the only biblically acceptable option. Sometimes even a firefighter knows when to abandon a building when the fire and impending danger is too great and overwhelming. Too many dreamers were trying to contain the fire rather than letting it run out of fuel. The arsonists who lit this SBC hell fire are too far along to avoid the scorching of God's wrath.

These issues are a natural product of Semi-Pelagianism.
You didn't see these issues when Baptists were largely confessional and Reformed.
Arminianism kept spreading and the SBC as you see it today is the fruit.
Well said Josh. I am praying for wisdom as I lead my own Church

No surprise here. The highest earthly organization that is established is the local church. When local churches are brought into an oversight of a bigger organization, then those churches deviate from the original pattern of the NT. These conventions are modern inventions of men, which do not have any backing by the scriptures whatsoever.

In my lifetime, I’ve attended baptist services scores of times and almost always felt “at home” enough to participate. I appreciate baptists’ emphasis on justification and baptism (immersion) of believers. I’ve never been a voting member of a baptist congregation but I hope my observations might be of some help to people involved in this discussion.

I consider the biblical usage of the word “church” to fall in two categories: 1: as a reference to everyone worldwide who are learning to trust the Messiah and 2: when identified as the church in a certain place, as a reference to those same people in a given location (city, town or village).

In ancient Israel, the church (identified in the King James translation as “assembly” or “congregation”) consisted of people with faith in the Messiah but one of the forms of apostasy that befell ancient Israel was the adoption of the doctrine that the organization of the church WAS the church. Farmers, fishermen and tradesmen were taught to accept the decisions and Bible interpretations of the “chief priests and rabbis” or the Sanhedrien as the voice of God to the people - which is why there was so little opposition to the decision to ask Pilate to crucify Jesus.

After Jesus returned to heaven, a similar apostasy occurred again. Within a few centuries, the vast majority of people in western Europe thought of “the Church” (usually capitalized), not as the believers themselves but as an organization based in Rome. This time, the apostasy was even deeper because a much lower percentage of the people were literate.

Hierarchy, creedalism and dogmatism can, of course, exist even within a local congregation. (There are ways to mitigate this tendency.)

The word, “denomination”, means having a name - and there is nothing “wrong” with “associations” or “connections” or “conventions” of two or more local congregations. On the other hand, when the officers of such an association of local congregations begin to think of themselves as having more spiritual authority than the laity do, the tendency toward hierarchy, creedalism and dogmatism almost always follows.

The Southern Baptist Convention has, so far, managed to avoid one of the mistakes that other associations have made. When the name of an organization includes the word “Church”, that tendency is almost always accelerated.

The problem with the SBC seminaries is that they seem to be far more concerned with being accepted and liked by the broader academic community than with preparing faithful church leaders, theologians, Bible scholars, and evangelists/missionaries.

I went to Baptist Church as a young person. But I have no set church anymore. If you have Sunday Worship, celebrate Christmas or Easter, I'm not going to that church. If you teach Pre Tribulation rapture, nope. And I don't know enough about 7th Day Adventist. And latter day saints are Mormon if I'm correct, so nope. But as more are waking up, the knowledge is increasing, maybe I'll find my place in this little town.

I hope ALL of the calvinists would LEAVE the SBC. But they WON'T because they NEED the SBC to recruit and grow. No one is saved in calvinist churches as it is another gospel. The calvinist Presby churches have DIED and the only scraps they have left is to destroy the SBC.

I'm of Mennonite decent, which means little to me since the Canadian Mennonite Conference in 2016 voted in gay marriage. I follow Christ and not Menno Simmons. The leadership was pushing a different gospel, which is a false gospel. At that point the Conference ceased to be Christian (obviously the change happened long before) and I was determined to leave at that point. What ever one's denomination is, is of no value, if it abandons Christ. Great video.

The SBC is going down the same path as the ELCA Lutheran church! The Missouri Synod Lutheran Church is devoted to Sola Scriptura! The most powerful body is the local church! No Bishops or Decons! Synotical Presidents who have no power to place pastors!

I don't believe the denominational model of the SBC is biblical at all. It just seems like the first recorded churches of the NT were too busy facing brutal and horrific persecution under Roman emperors, to congregate together and form an "umbrella association" of "likeminded churches." That probably was also the case for churches centuries later who were facing brutal and horrific persecution under Roman popes. The SBC was pro-choice in the 1970s. That's all you need to know in these recent decades, after other serious problems, to come out of the SBC this whorish religion, touch no unclean thing, and be ye separate.

Personally, I'm not ready to leave the SBC yet. I plan to wait a couple of years and see what happens, and then go from there. I do agree wholeheartedly that the SBC needs local churches more than local churches need the SBC. Not long ago, our church unanimously adopted a resolution on local church autonomy and sent it to various leaders in the SBC. We let them know in no uncertain terms that our autonomy is not negotiable, and it will be their loss if they attempt to infringe on it.

I just cannot be behind something that just indoctrinated people into thinking that leaders should not be accountable and that you are the problem. I just do not understand how the SBC can influence its locate churches to do bad things.

Strange how he says he has to send his guys to California and bypass SBC schools because theyve been been taken over by libs. I send my guys to other schools because SBC schools has been taken over by so called "Reformed Baptists". so is there a link here? Every church that embraces Reformed theology eventually goes liberal. Presbyterian, Congregationalists, the Philadelphia Baptists association (which became the ABCUSA) etc etc. When you teach that 95% of humanity has NO ability to ever come to Christ, yet Christ has no intention of coming to them, your brain explodes and you end up as a Universalist
