Thanks again for another informative video. I noticed that Harley changed up the interval as well. I think ( one of the reasons ) they did it is to save on the service plans they sell at time of purchase. You can buy a three year service plan and never even get one, 3 hole fluid change. Pretty crappy, that's how they reward loyalty. Thanks again Kevin !!
ОтветитьWhat's your opinion on Motul Twin 20W-50 100% Synthetic with Ester for a 2016 Fat Boy S. It's popular in Europe but not so much in the US. This is what's currently in the bike from the previous owner; should I stay with it?
ОтветитьFilter - I am an Amsoil Motorcycle Oil fan too - but for filters? What is your opinion on the Amsoil Oil filter for Harley?
ОтветитьHi Kevin, really great video. I'm looking for advice on what type of engine oil is suitable for HD heritage 1993. I m from Malaysia so climate are pretty hot.. the reason I'm looking for a recommendation is I start to see oil drop after 2000 km where I had top up 1ltr oil again. Using Mannol engine oil current.
Honestly looking for your expert recommendations
Do you run the standard or performance HifloFiltro filters?
ОтветитьA quick question? My motorcycle requires 10w40 JASO MA, but I have 2 liters of 10W60 Motul motorcycle oil that meeting all these requirements, but the viscosity is higher....can i use it in my motocycle that asks for 10w40?
ОтветитьThis man is the real deal. His kind is what made America stand out from all others. Honest, intelligent and productive. I don't look up to too many men, but I can tell he is a good man. We all benefit from his knowledge. I know he enjoys his work. Love the flags behind him.
ОтветитьI have a 1985 evo with 96000 miles I’ve been running 2050 since new should I change to synthetic now?
ОтветитьI liked your video on oil. I have had the HD maintenance done per manual on my 2009 HD Fatboy. I recently switched from HD Sys 3 to Red Line 90226 Big Twin 20w50 Power Pack Oil Package with K&N High Performance Oil Filter. I noticed it was easier to shift, and much quieter in transmission and engine. You prefer Amsoil but how does it compare to Red Line? Also, I believe you stated carbon on the top of the pistons and rings is good?? There are shops out there saying the opposite and selling products to avoid build up by using cleaning detergent in gas to EBS. I must have heard you wrong on carbon buildup being good. I have looked at the Jagg oil cooler but how does it compare to the UltraCool oil coolers and do you need the air fan on them?
ОтветитьI've got a fifty two pan head that I run Sixty wait in what do you think
ОтветитьSo is drag specialties DS-3 a decent brand as it's the particular brand that my shop uses and swears by for affordability and protection
ОтветитьDo you know of an.oil cooler for a 2021 HD Ultra Limited?
ОтветитьMan I just found your channel this past week and wish I had years ago. Because the level of knowledge I've gained in just a week is beyond what I could ever expect.
ОтветитьKevin, your explanation on conventional vs synthetic made perfect sense for the HD engine. Does the same logic apply to the primary and transmission? I ride an 09 Ultra Classic.
Thanks.. Great video
Does the
I like amsoil back in the shovelhead days I used to use Kendall. If the bike had regular Harley 20-50 when should you change that oil every 3000 and then switch back to synthetic I love using synthetic oil I change my mind every 3,000 MI
ОтветитьHi Kevin have you tried the Amsoil filters .
ОтветитьI very much enjoyed this video and made me a lot wiser. I have a question; I live in Mexico with high temps, the HD owners manual recommends SAE60 at this temps, yet know nobody using it. Should I use it? Many thanks, Mark
ОтветитьI just recently got a 2003 heritage softail and was wondering what type of oil I need to run... I'm new to the harley world any help would be appreciated
ОтветитьHey Kevin watched your video I switched to AMSOIL ordered it from them they sent me a catalog and sticker they asked me how I learned about them and I told them I watch your channel you schooled me on oils so thank you it is the best
ОтветитьYOUR SUPER SMART THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP ENJOY RIDE ON RIDE LOW,, TAKE CARE
ОтветитьI've been using Amsoil for many years in all my vehicles. Great channel, glad someone out there is preaching the facts. So much bad and misinformation out there and people following bad advice. I will reference this video in the future.
ОтветитьInteresting to hear that there us "good" carbon in deposits as you mentioned. Do you mind elaborating ?
ОтветитьWhat are your thoughts on amsoil filters Kevin?
ОтветитьOn my 05 harley should I add an oil cooler, all stock bike.
ОтветитьOutstanding!!!!
ОтветитьHi Kevin do you have the exact name on Amsoil oil for my FLTRXS 2015 i cant find it here in Denmark
ОтветитьThe longer intervals could be carbon points but they can also be due to better oils.
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьI was told by a retired Harley mechanic not to run centhetic in my older Harley during a transmission rebuild but I always run Lucas oil an Lucas stable izer am I wrong I only have 89 an older Harleys 3 of them
ОтветитьGreat instructor
ОтветитьHi Kevin, you use tolerance and clearance interchangeably - they’re not the same thing. BTW, in has been shown many decades ago that plain bearings, at engine speed, have no more additional frictional loss over roller bearings.
ОтветитьHave you ever done a video on what oil or fluid to run in harley transmission? As far as weight or brand. Hearing a lot of different opinions. I want to know your thoughts or what you have seen. Thank you.
ОтветитьI appreciate your knowledge and expertise. Just for an example - I had a 1965 Panhead that i rode for 28 years , racking up 250,000 miles , with 3 engine rebuilds in the process. I exclusively used Kendall automotive racing oil which had a very high zinc content , and over all that time and all those miles , I Never experienced an oil related problem.
ОтветитьHow about German oil? HD SYNTH LIQUI MOLI SAE 20W-50 API SN Plus
JASO MA2 , I have been using redline oil and I decided to switch to LIQUI MOLY and I must say the engine quiet down a lot with this oil , have a look in to this oil.
If 10w50 oil gets thicker when hot why does it seem thicker in the container and thinner draining?
ОтветитьBest video I have EVER seen👍
ОтветитьLove the channel thanks for all you do. Had a Jagg fan assisted oil cooler installed at a local shop. It seems so vulnerable down there. If you have any pull with them ask them to make a guard. 07 ultra classic. Any thoughts about protecting it? Am I just paranoid? This was a great discussion changing over to Amsoil.
ОтветитьThank You! I have a bias for Amsoil, which came from my intro to BMW's twins in 1996. I was looking at 6-7000 mile touring distances in the U.S. summer (single trip) and those BMW twins have the gear box separate fr engine, and rear end gear lube for the shaft drive; leave the house with fresh tires and no need to service out on the road. Hopefully. So, at that time, Amsoil fluids were cheaper than the BMW oils, and with hindsight, better oils as well. Now today (2024) I still kinda cringe when I submit an order to Amsoil, even as a "preferred customer" with better pricing, BUT to this day we've NEVER had an engine or gear box or rear end failure in our bikes, cars, or trucks. OR in my race bikes; imagine driving a race rig 1500 miles RT, entry fees, tires, licensing, etc., to have an engine blow as an Uncle said Rotella 15w-50 was THE thing to use in EVERYthing?! I digress; TY for the invaluable information about bearings and production years. Ride on!
ОтветитьI like motul 300 V for m’y kawa zx14. A-t-il 70000 km, no problème!
ОтветитьHey Kevin I have a 23 breakout 117 with 3500 miles. I live in Mn. but I don't ride below 60 very often Am i ok using a straight 50 weight full synthetic in all three holes?
ОтветитьI use Valvoline 20w50 zinc I feel like motorcycle oils got additives for transmissions and clutches and Harley’s. Don’t have that in the motor it’s cheap and it’s got lots of zinc.
ОтветитьNicely done, Kevin. It says this video was done 6 yrs ago. Wow, I just ran across it today 1.18.2025. I saw your video on your website and saw a man driven with passion not only for himself but to help others and share what you have learned with others. I will reach out to you through your website. Great job on the explication of Rotella and why it may not be in ones best interest long term. I just listened to a guy before you wanteing to try it because he heard it was cheaper than mobile 1. He also did have much to say good about Amsoil being too expensive and hard to find. I shot him a message and said, "You have no excuses now about where to find Amsoil. I gave him my website and phone number. Again, nicely done. If you've never visited the Amsoil facility in Wisconsin, you ought to take a tour.
ОтветитьYears ago manufacturers switched from showing you how to make your vehicle last, to showing you how to get it through the warranty period. Lengthen the oil change interval, it still lasts through the warranty but you'll be back to replace it sooner and they sell another car/truck/motorcycle. Most oil experts say stick with the 3k mile oil change and your engine will last significantly longer.
ОтветитьNo body ever mention Quick silver 20/50 bike oil. .?
ОтветитьJust stumbled upon this 6yr old video Kevin. Are your views still the same? Also, what oil would you recommend for my stick 91 Evolution harley ?
Ответить3 Harley's over 100,000 between them on..... that's right SuperTech Syn 20w50 V-Twin! Just change your oil....
ОтветитьI use. Castrol 20w50 full synthetic v twin think it is great
ОтветитьHow do you rate it
ОтветитьMy harleys dealers tell me they wont change my oil if I use any thing other than syn3 don't make sense to me
ОтветитьDo you run AMSOIL synthetic for the break in process as well, or do you run a break in oil
I seen that ams oil makes a break in oil, I don’t believe it’s a motorcycle specific, but does that even matter?
What’s your opinion on the FLO oil filters?
