Perhaps he was supposed to be portrayed as a man with Amphibious powers to grow back limbs and stuff really fast.

I'm sure that this version is what I would have loved to have seen when I went to see this at the movies when I was 6. The real thing scared the shit out of me. Couldn't understand why the goodies lost.

amphibious means somthing lives on land and in water, it has nothing to do with growing new limbs.
