Religion in itself is good. It is the devil that has used us to pervert. What is good. You were raised very rulistic. That's a perversion of what God meant for us. We always need to be reminded. “Religion” comes from “re-ligare”, or “the manner in which you worship God”. We all have different ways of worship, and there is nothing in the Bible about swearing or drinking, manner of dress, smoking or a great many things that Baptists or other Protestants focus on. As a Catholic (the original Christians according to the Acts of the Apoostles, “kata holos”) we don’t pay attention to any of that, but upon focusing on Christ. The Bible is only that part of the teachings of Christ that was written down by the Apostles, but the Fathers of the Church have written great things too. Protestants also translated the Bible to suit themselves, taking one single word that meant “tradition” and translating it one way when they mean “bed tradition of men” and another way when they mean “good tradition of God” and then point to their translation as proof of what traditions to follow. Like Luther,who added “alone” to faith where it wasn’t, took out books he didn’t like (what you call the apocrypha), and tried to take out the book of James. So oddly, when you say you are against “religion” you are saying you are against Protestant religion. Check out Catholic and Orthodox. You will see a lot you never imagined.

Some points to consider~
-do you really think that Creator didn’t know why women bleed? It’s the foundation of all mammal reproduction including humans and yet according to Genesis, it’s a “curse”. It’s the men who wrote it who didn’t know why women bleed and used it as a way to shame women because what you can shame, you can control.
- why did Creator create homosexuality in nearly all mammals if gay/lesbian wasn’t part of the plan?
The anti-gay/lesbian verses were written by men and focused mainly on male homosexuality because they didn’t want to be r——d. And yet, there are verses written in the Bible that say women who’ve been r—-d who didn’t yell loud enough should be stoned. Do you really think God ever said such things?
-So far as the old and New Testament and being under a new covenant~ research HOW the books of the New Testament were chosen by the Catholic Church and who they were and how many books they chose from—-and how thousands of books were destroyed and people/teachers/priests were persecuted from teaching or possessing those other books. Religion was the first politics and was used as w way to control their populations-/again mostly men.

- Do you really think Creator would appoint men as the “spiritual leaders” when men are the ones doing most of the wars, violence, r—-, mol———n of children? Replacing women’s natural spirituality and right to go to God directly for guidance and murdering the protective mother bear inside of them?

Connection with Creator is natural. We don’t need toxic filters to connect direct. If God is in our HEARTS, we should go to God—not dead words on a page written by men. Anyone can claim “these are the words of God” and they did.
It’s much easier for people to use dead words on a page and much more manipulatable - that’s why so much violence has been used using the words of the Bible. It’s hierarchical and authoritarian. Though there are gems in the Bible and many religious texts, it is often mixed with poisons because it was written by humans. Sexism, racism, homophobia, violence are all found in the Bible and condoned by “God”.

If the Bible contained only this— God is Love and Mystery, Love your neighbor and love yourself— humanity would be MUCH better off. To say you believe all the words of the Bible are the words of God means that you believe God is evil—because the God of the Bible is racist, sexist, homophobic and violent. Yes, there are loving verses of Jesus but even Jesus said some things with these qualities. Do you believe God EVER believed women should be stoned if she was r——d? That is IN THE BIBLE.

Creator is perfect, wise and in our HEARTS. We can all connect DIRECT. It is natural! The God of Us All—Loves us All! ❤️

These are the things I considered when I left religion (Baptist/Adventist). Leaving religion didn’t lessen my connection with Creator ~ it magnified and clarified it. God, not dead words on a page written by fallible men, is my Guide 💜

I was nearly 60 years old before a dear friend taught me that being a Christian means a personal relationship with Jesus; prior to that I didn't like church because it made me feel weak and small as a man stood in the pulpit, shook a finger at us and told us every week that we are all terrible people, sinners who need to live each day cowering in fear. Then when I developed lupus, several church people distanced themselves in judgement, believing - and telling me - I did not pray enough or have enough faith or was secretly sinning since their prayers did not "cure" me. Walking in relationship with Jesus is true freedom. Men may have opinions, but Jesus has the Truth.

You have heard it said no one can keep the law. Read Deut. 6:8-9
In Rev. says it is those who keep the Commandments and the Testimony of Jesus that will make up the true church.
The Testament of Jesus is the Sermon on the Mount. It is those who have the words from His mouth, or better known as the Holy Spirit. Do you know His voice?

It seems no one reads the Sermon on the Mount, or they just miss where Jesus tells us to seek the will of the Father. Or those who teach against the law. It is those who keep the Commandments and the Testimony of Jesus (The Commandments and the Sermon) that make up the church.

If Jesus fulfilled the law when He was here on earth, then why didn't He come as a Lord or Priest?. If our parents kept the law of the land, does that mean we don't have to? Those who teach no law are not teaching what Jesus taught. If we would keep the law, Ten Commandments, as He teaches in Deut. 6:8-9, we too can and should keep it as He did.

I've spent my life flopping around, making a mess out of it, and riding the fence on whether Jesus is real or not. It took me getting extremely I'll and finally nearly dying with my blood pressure at 250. I prayed and Jesus saved my life. After 10 yrs of high blood pressure my blood pressure has been normal for several months now. I'm not riding the fence anymore. What a great thing you have done covering this topic, I would have loved to have heard this many years ago when I didn't know Jesus, when all I found was the religious. Jesus Christ did not come to bring a new religion, but to encourage everyone to seek redemption and salvation from Him. Fellowship is very good, just doesn’t need to be in a building with a minister. I don’t like going to organized churches because sermons always seem to include the importance of tithing. A few of the churches that I went to, gave the option to set up your bank account to autopay tithes each week. I’ve also been to churches that were very judgmental and not welcoming at all. I believe that I fellowship with Christ Jesus and everyone who follows Him when I study Holy Scriptures.
He already knows me and wants me to get to know Him.
A personal relationship with Him is what I think He desires.

I’m a believer as well. I’m 60. I came back to the Lord a few years before 2020. I just simply came to the end of myself .
I feel like I’m a Free Grace Believer. But I go to a Bible based Baptist church. I don’t believe everything they do, but they do teach from the Bible-sola scriptura. And they are very casual in dress.
I have tattoos. I had gotten them in my heathen days
There is a verse against cursing in the Bible, and I really do try not to do that but I let one slip from time to time.
My daughter is a prodigal and a liberal I suspect. I pray for her salvation daily.
