Not that Sarah is a “conniving woman” - she’s an awful person. And Jorge “a man” was a victim of domestic violence and a battered spouse. It would be Pollyannish of me to ignore the role that gender norms and stereotypes play in our society (the word Pollyanna in itself speaks a bit to that)- but hopefully, some good can come out of The Sarah and Owens Circus Act by shining more light on the fact that any person can be a victim of DV and anyone finding themselves trapped in a dangerous, toxic relationship should have access to resources and support to be safe.
