This is great video. Neutral stance seems to be the key for me, as it gives me margin to adjust when I get to these balls and often unable to get spacing right. Quick question on using arm/wrist. It seems that I have to use my forearm and wrist a lot with these shots, especially when I want to hit very sharp angles. My forearm got pretty tired after practicing, making me wonder if I am doing it correctly. Any tips on the technique?

So are you saying one should approach the net after ball like this?

Hey Meike, great video as always.
I am super old school so at times slicing would do it for me and I have never done the approach hop-step. Anyhow, my backhand side would always give me trouble since the only thing effective would be the chip and charge. Do you have a video of this topic regarding the backhand options?
Keep up the great work.

Thanks! Another great lesson! When coming in after hitting the short ball, do you generally follow the ball or bisect the angle?

Really good technique in your demos. Your title is how to attack this ball. The low, short forehand is is not forehand a ball to attack. For amateurs, it may be the toughest shot and is the reason hackers beat “real” players. You used the correct term “transition” which is perfect. Since most players have no idea how to volley, or hit a well-placed overhead, this is the source of their fear. 75% of the women pros cannot volley; 33% of the men. I just watched Sinner lose to Alcaraz with 30% close rate when he went to net, almost with position. The lack of volley teaching ability is a disaster today. SO, the only viable play for most pros and almost all amateurs is to use the drop shot on this ball. You completely left out this best option.

Great video! For me, as an amateur player, hop hop + volley works very well. Sometimes I can also vary with a drop shot. I play always in clay, so drop shot is really a great attack shot for short balls. Greeting from Chile.

Great video, Meike👍
I really hope you make another one for the one handed backhand on short low balls. Thank you.

Chip and charge is such an underrated tactic. I (a righty) have a long-term left knee injury and am working on my forehand chips for low forehand attacks. I'd love a forehand slice lesson if you have the time :) Thanks as always, your videos are amazing.
