btw if you need more sprites on screen if you are able to just make it so while one sprite is showing another one is hidden and flip-flop it every frame. Also try to make minecraft on pico-8 or whatever its called.

Honestly a good first attempt! But uh, I think you should learn about how the tile map system works. In short: you don't need to give every single tile on the screen a unique graphic and directly edit the graphics on the fly, instead you have a grid of tile ID numbers and just change the number to be the tile you want to display. This is how it was doing the tile de-duplication you were struggling with. Might be worth looking at how Super Mario Land 2 works, since blocks can be broken while only using tiles!

It's videos like these that remind me how crazy it is that the scrappy little GameBoy kicked every other handheld of it's time out of the water despite how limited it is. The Sega Game Gear could run GENESIS games on it, and still sold worse than the GameBoy.
