The official name was Inspection Cars. The company was Fairmont Railway Motors, manufactured in Fairmont, Mn. The Hy-Rail units on the pickups were made by the same company. The Hy-Rail has been offered since the 1960's. They were also installed on 4 door sedans and station wagons along with trucks of various sizes. The last 4 door cars with Hy-Rails were an American Motors Matadors in 1975. On the Inspection Cars the original engines were the Fairmont engines, newer ones used Onan Engines, or for greater horsepower the Kohler 4-cylinder engines were used. The Hy=Rails were offered to be installed from 3/4 ton pickups (Model 0307) up to 15-ton Ford F750 or Chevy 7500's. Repair Trucks. They also manufactured Gang Cars, to haul work crews to a site. A4's equipped with English Ford 4-cylinder engines, or A6's and A8's with American Ford Inline 6-cylinder Engines. The very first Inspection Car built by "The Motors" was in 1903, when they married a Fairmont stationary single cylinder engine, used in rural areas and on farms to power many different pieces of equipment, to a 4-man Hand Pump Cart. Fairmont Railway Motors also produced a complete line of Maintenance of Way Equipment. They were bought out by Harsco Corp in 1980, and the entire operation was moved to Columbus, S.C. in the late 1990's, and merged with 2 other Maintenance of Way Equipment manufactures that Harsco purchased' Now known as Harsco Track Technologies. I worked at The Motors" in the 1970's and 80's, in the Service Division manning the "Red Phone". When it rang, that meant someone somewhere needed a repair part yesterday. It's great to see people who really love the older equipment and spend the time, money and effort to keep them on the rails.

ОтветитьSo cool, dude !
Ответить¡qué hermoso es hacer un viaje así!, con todas las temperaturas, lloviendo también, menos con nieve. me gustó todo fué muy agradable. suerte. suerte.
ОтветитьNo room for hobo shoestring to ride.
ОтветитьDI maidi bom 😊
Ответитьwhat an experience it would be for my 93 year old body. I really enjoy these videos on railcars, I dont know if we have any here in Sacramento,Calif. Great video. 5-19-2023.

ОтветитьThe First Fella Ya Rode With Was Quiet the Jabber Box 😅 Love the Speeder Ride, Thank You for taking us with You
ОтветитьFantastic vid, made me feel like I was there.
ОтветитьSo cool!
ОтветитьI seriously wonder, why there is nobody who tried to build something like Regina/Katarina from Metro Last Light. I mean, she is surely a beauty isnt she? And with a little work, this idea can be made in a vehicle with 3 or even 5 seats.
Whould be surely the same great feeling like riding all those others rail speeders there.
Damn. That looks llike fun
ОтветитьReally cool
ОтветитьWhat is the cost of riding this
ОтветитьWhy not a map of the route ?
ОтветитьAwesome video thank you for this video. Denis from Santa Rosa CA
ОтветитьAwesome. You should see what its like on a 15,000 ton coal train 2 miles long. I was a conductor and its stress city on a real freight train. This looks more fun.
ОтветитьFunny how humans, will walk past each other in the street on opposite sides of the road, and just ignore each other, yet stick them in a unique interesting 'moving' object like an old steam train, a tourist boat, airplane, in fact anything, even a 'speeder' like in this video, and they all start waving at each other lol. 😂
ОтветитьThe short wheel base makes it more likely to derail, especially on rough track? No suspension?
ОтветитьLooks like fun
ОтветитьThis is a big thing where I live in P.A, they do a toys for tots run...
ОтветитьWay to much fun
ОтветитьI hope you see this and respond.
I'm curious if people with the homemade speeders get to go on those runs also?
How do they transport them from home to the railroad tracks?
ОтветитьWhen I was a kid live tracks ran through the city. We loved these things. Put put cars
Ответитьthis is new to me. I have been watching videos on people going down abandoned rail on home made speeders. I wonder if this is for only equipment build for railroads or can home made equipment participate
ОтветитьThis is a fantastic video! A ride on one would be a dream come true!
ОтветитьNicefide❤❤
ОтветитьThis looks like great fun. Nothing like this in the UK.
Interesting that your rail joints are staggered unlike in the UK. What is the reason for this? Makes it sound that you are travelling much faster than it looks.
I just found this video and those things look absolutely fun to ride in. I wish i could have the opportunity to ride one of those speeders.
ОтветитьThere’s this app where I’ve been snagging some really economical tickets recently—they have a current promotion. I can share the details with you if you’d like
ОтветитьThat Looks Ao Fun.
ОтветитьSo Fun.
ОтветитьLooks fun!!!
ОтветитьWhere is this? Open to the public?
ОтветитьAs a current mow worker i would love to have one of these i have personally done miles and miles on track in full size mow equipment one of the longest track travel i did was 60mi i would opt for the open cab version because there is nothing like riding the rails with the wind in your face and anything that sketchy looking lol
ОтветитьThanks to all for this.
ОтветитьTop
Brazil
That's awesome ❤❤
ОтветитьMy brother has a Fairmont speeder..it's so much fun!!
ОтветитьSocial distance my ass,two people next to each other that close is NOT social distance, you had to be a meter apart
ОтветитьTheres a Fairmont railcar a barn by my shop. How sought after are these things? Its got a yellow cab. Looks like fiberglass.
ОтветитьIf given the opportunity, would you take a ride or even own one of your own?
