Hi, I’m in Australia and oh my goodness, this was so interesting. The only thing I’d have a problem with is the rubbish piling up outside, but great video and many thanks ❤️👏👏👏👏🦘
Ответитьwow
ОтветитьCaptivating documentary supported by period pictures, really puts all the architectural terms into a historical perspective for me. I was aware of the tribulations that Londoners had to put up with, and also certain areas of Sydney and Melbourne were similarly poorly designed, so this has been a great insight into the development of housing in New York.

ОтветитьUww we I love Merca cause who nicknamed it a shotgun cause that took over I have rarely heard it called a train car
ОтветитьCool Stuff!
Ответитьcould you release a version without the background music?
ОтветитьI loved this made me miss architecture school.
ОтветитьPeople who lived on the 6th floor of a walk up were probably in great shape.
ОтветитьWealth ruins everything.
ОтветитьThis is the worst. "story " ....ever told
ОтветитьConn Terrace
ОтветитьStoep is actually the sidewalk... Dutch Cape Verdiaan we here in the Netherlands since 1800 🇳🇱
ОтветитьI love how you pointed out "WHY" during this
ОтветитьNice
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьGreat video. Well articulated.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing the history!
ОтветитьWhat about the gotham architecture
ОтветитьLoved it “stoop” is not a dutch word for staircase tho😂
ОтветитьSo if gentrification didnt happen in soho, they’d be an artists’ district?
ОтветитьI was waiting to see Rex Heuermann giving his thoughts
Ответитьvery nice. I just wandered into your site
ОтветитьI think another type of house that is super popular are the two story apartments in queens! They’re kinda pentagon shaped with three front windows ! Wish to learn more about them
ОтветитьFailure, by design. Nothing more, so much less.
Staying stuck to the page of a failed past is not evolution. It is the definition of stagnation as people fester in these cultural embarrassments.
Thank you, this is so intresting!
ОтветитьDo they call modern studio apartments "efficiencies"? They do in the mid-Atlantic and I always thought it sounded funny.
ОтветитьThere are still art galleries in SoHo. Maybe not as many as before, but I feel like the area still has maintained that artistic vibe.
ОтветитьSo interesting! Just one thing (maybe others already mentioned it) stoop (stoep) in Dutch means sidewalk, not stairs :)! So maybe the name originates because the stairs lead to the sidewalk?
ОтветитьI only found your videos recently and enjoy them very much. One correction. Stoop as you call it is spelled stoep in dutch. It doesn't mean staircase, but it means sidewalk. Im am dutch.
ОтветитьStoep = pavement.
Not staircase
I already knew all this stuff. Yay me !! I've always mourned not having a longer association with schooling. Turns out education really doesn't, or shouldn't, end with formal training.
This was a truely excellent review, though. Nice to see others are equally excited.
hi
ОтветитьLove It this video
ОтветитьIt's to me very morally questionable how we used to build buildings, why couldn't people just build buildings to give everyone an ideal life?. Having to put your bathtub in your kitchen area is absolutely insane to me 🙃🙃🙃
ОтветитьLove this guy
ОтветитьWonderful! Thank you. Came for the general apartment layout knowledge, and unexpectedly learned the reason why 20 NYC blocks is roughly equal to one mile.
ОтветитьWhat type of building/apartment did the Odd Couple live in?
ОтветитьThat was soooo interesting!
ОтветитьThis is such a great video. I love how he explains the history of everything so well
ОтветитьIn Romania there are also called railroad car, but usually housese had that layout.
ОтветитьIronic that elevators allowed us to go over 6 stories, and USSR required an elevator for any building more than 5 floors.... interesting how human nature and effective climbing floors distance limited buildings.
ОтветитьI️ could never afford to live in SoHo, but why on earth would you want to let the destroyers of civilization move in? They’ll just mess it up for everyone.
ОтветитьI have lived in different apartments style in nyc and this makes lot of sense also grateful for the progress in this city that has came a long way!
ОтветитьWhy the heck don't they build some nice looking bin bays for all that garbage in front of Brownstones?
ОтветитьThis answers a lot of questions.
ОтветитьA friend of mine rented an apartment in Manhattan with a bathtub in the kitchen. At the time, it was being played off as a cool thing, but I found it as cool as all the mouse traps set up around the house.
ОтветитьAnd they wonder why we all want so much stuff ? They being the wealthier classes. Duh, because we were starved of these material things for generations. And generally, those that feel we should live with a lot less are those that are choosing to live with less. And if they decide they don't want to live with less anymore, they have the means to replace their stuff on a whim !
