the politically motivated question to ask : Why asians excel despite being disadvantage by affirmative action?
ОтветитьWhy asians excel despite being disadvantage by affirmative action?
ОтветитьEveryone reply to my comment with reasons why affirmation action is good. I’m writing an essay and would really appreciate the help! It’s due tomorrow!
ОтветитьWho wouldn't want college admissions to be race neutral?
ОтветитьDon't forget the reason why a college degree is worthwhile is corporate hiring would think someone with a degree is smarter, and this perception is built upon generations of graduates doing well in their posts. The reputation breaks easily if the employers have gotten too many lemons.
ОтветитьDon't care, if this means that I get to go to a better college I will absolutely stand with race neutral admissions.
ОтветитьIf you wanna help low income people, then make the criteria for preference low income. This should honestly be based on class, race should not be a factor. A rich black kid should not be prioritized over a poor white one.
ОтветитьIn the future of the Supreme Court their will be no people of color on the Supreme Court. They don't realize, we are Americans and they are not.
ОтветитьSo people get a very small taste of what black people go through, since before the inception of this country, and people lose their minds and now all of a sudden racism exists. But when it happens to black people on a daily basis, crickets. Affirmative action was created and instated on the backs of black people, while many minorities, including Asians and white women, have benefitted from affirmative action. But now "too many minorities" are out-performing the group in power so they use a scapegoat group, Asians, to say that this policy is being racist, when in fact it was created and implemented to combat the lack of equality and equity, based on the color of your skin, that this country was built on. Interesting
Ответитьreservations and affirmative actions should be based on economic conditions.
ОтветитьAll this proves is that one degree has more merit! Nothing else lol
ОтветитьGood. Affirmative action was disgusting.
ОтветитьAffirmative Action needs to be restored now :(
ОтветитьAssuming that there can be race-neutrality as an ideal indicates that racial diversity has no value. The Supreme Court is diverse for a reason. Successful businesses diversify their intended audience and diverse their approaches and production. The collegiate experience must include exposure to diversity, because this is the real world, and college can be just the opposite.
Ideally, there would be no racist deans of admissions, but what a place for a white supremacist to roost who has to answer to no credo of diversity.
So basically affirmative action is discriminating against white and Asian students while ignoring the root of the problem which is black and Hispanic Americans are not getting the same resources and opportunities from public schooling- so instead of affirmative action why don’t we support them before college so everyone can be viewed equally?
ОтветитьAffirmative action is covert admission of inferiority..,but nobody wants to talk about that…
ОтветитьLowering the bar for anyone hurts everyone. Merit is how we as Americans must select our next business leaders, physicians, teachers etc. The world is a competitive place and we need to stay as sharp as we can.
ОтветитьPeople just love making excuses. Excuses to cover up for their regrets and laziness. I was born into an immigrant family and I don’t speak English natively, albeit by now I speak it very well. Both of my parents together have a combined total of a $80,000 a year income. Keep in mind that we live in California. I go to a Title 1 school and am on government-subsidized healthcare. I spent a grand total of $0.00 on studying for the SAT and got a 1560. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Everyone has the opportunity you just need to put in the effort.
ОтветитьHispanic students seem to be doing quite fine so don't know what that guy is going on about. And what's more, for the black students that do get into top schools, they benefit from the higher prestige of the degree and don't carry the stigma of having been handed their accomplishment.
Ответитьthe types exploiting it assume they don't have to reveal themselves in affirmative action when that is the opposite of the truth. to get benefits you have to say like a Native.
ОтветитьThen these so-called groups against the affirmative actions only consider the SAT score, nothing else. I can assure you, these universities will be left with only Asians.
Ответитьits all over
ОтветитьWe should also speak about the elite wealthy pass that individuals with great family backgrounds get even though they might be ineligible for admission regardless of the weight of the affirmative action. It happens a lot and we need to put that in discussion.
ОтветитьAffirmative Action programs began in 1970's to include equally qualified minorities and women according to their proportion in the society into the workplace and colleges, changing them from all white male. As was the US senate at that time, the elite were all white male ,US senate was 100% white male. Of course the numbers were changed for women substituting population proportionality to percentages...
ОтветитьJust study harder and you will get in
Ответитьselecting people based on race is racist
ОтветитьWhat I fail to understand is why poor African Americans from the inner city don't get mad that affirmative action which is meant to uplift them from the cycle of poverty is given to rich African Americans. How do you guys not get mad? Help me out here.
ОтветитьGrades are BS in the real world though, as an engineering grad
ОтветитьIf you want to increase diversity in short time just don't ask for higher tuitions bro... or make people pay proportionally to their family income.
ОтветитьEquality is the law, right? Is diversity the excuse for breaking the law, the Constitution? Amending the Constitution for diversity is more an American Spirit approach, with liberty and justice for all.
ОтветитьImagine if the NBA restricted the number of black people able to join the league because they were too good at basketball. Is that not discrimination? Should we be penalizing high performers? Crazy thought, but maybe we should judge people by their merit.
ОтветитьIt’s up to every student to prove that they are worthy of going to elite schools
ОтветитьVERY TRUE IT`S CALLED QUOTA SYSTEM ON THE CHOOSING OF STUDENTS INTO THE LOCAL UNIVERSITIES, SO YOU ARE CHOOSEN BASED ON YOUR RACIAL ETHNIC QUOTA RATHER THAN OF YOUR GRADES / SCORES. PREFERENCE OVER QUANTITY RATHER THAN OVER QUALITY.
😎🙏
How many blacks work at the Wall Street Journal? Perhaps we need affirmative action in the Wall Street Journal, news and management offices.
ОтветитьAffirmative action is an atonement for the past. Its not about fairness or merit. If it doesn't include you, its not racist, it doesn't include you.
ОтветитьThe class that benefits most from affirmative action are white women from middle income family
Ответитьthey still didn't get rid of affirmative action for the rich, what a surprise.
ОтветитьThe AA damaged Asian community in the past decades. Many excellent Asian students were denied from top Universities due to their race. The US government and the Congress are responsible for this damage.
ОтветитьThe French have a way to deal with this. Just have a minimum threshold, and then use lottery selection. No more bise.
Ответитьwell, universities arent a place for FORCED equity. The people who should get in are those who are most prepared. End of discussion.
ОтветитьNeed Afirmative action in sports 😂
ОтветитьRide on merits, not skin color. It's a no brainer
ОтветитьHe said kids that were high ability but nonwhite couldn't get the sort of placement scores they needed for admissions because of their ... what? Lack of tutors? Lack of good high school? I had none of that. I'm black, and I got very high scores, and we were very poor, 4 kids, single mom. The difference was my family culture. My mom didn't let me run the streets like my friends. My mom, who didn't graduate high school, didn't let me join a gang. She made me read and write book reports before cartoons on Saturdays. Your focus is wrong. This is culture, not money. The other thing you're conveniently ignoring is wealthier kids are smarter. If your parents have IQs above 120, you will very likely be more cognitively capable than most. This is my blessing. My father, despite being a deadbeat, and a college dropout, is very gifted. But there is a lot of talent in the inner cities. I saw it. But most are discouraged... from "acting white." The gifted kids hide it.
ОтветитьAffirmative action by definition sets up a zero-sum game. Therefore, this study needs to be complemented by a difference in mean analysis of the pool of non-black/hispanic students who did not get into top schools due to affirmative action vs the ones who got in due to prop 209. If there is a difference in their success post prop 209 then that clearly quantifies that affirmative action was indeed discriminatory - in line with the court ruling. The way to increase representation of black/hispanic students in top colleges, in a way that is fair to all, is by improving public schools at the grassroot levels and changing family attitudes towards education.
ОтветитьWelp, this aged terribly.
ОтветитьAnti-Whitism is everywhere
ОтветитьCould it be genetics?
