The problem with the detente idea is disproved by what US and Nato did after USSR fell. Instead of taking that opportunity to create a better international system that benefited all, Nato expanded to Russia's border. That's how Putin was created. The results are plain to see today

It's madness to even contemplate that there will be a winner of an exchange between two nuclear powers, never mind one has a much greater superiority in numbers of these weapons.

Wrong question to ask. The right question is, how would both countries cope with the lost of 50% of their population and how would the rest of the world cope with radiation fall out for many years to come?

Both "experts" are talking China into a corner . Since when was this planet America's property?
Unlike Yale, Columbia &Princeton University , Beijing University was not built on opium and slave trade. Precious historic items were pillaged from China's Summer Palace ...till this day are on shameless display in US, UK and French museums. 400 US bases surround China which has one in Djibouti and guys cast your immense wisdom on China's place in this world . Both don't speak a word of Mandarin, where do you guys come from? Uwe sounds more a piece of Parfait , Elsbridge at least tries to build bridges. On the contrary, US and its virulent vassals risk imminent monumental failures ....from all its conquered, brutally subdued colonies and regime enemies.

Why noone bring out the pass century of China's humiliation by the western powers, which resulted in HK being given to British rule for over a century and the partition of Shanghai by the western powers and than the invasion of Japan before WW2??? All these actions dont count? Western powers have send armies invading China to Beijing and u think that the chinese conveniently forgot such acts of violence and also China was even made to pay for these wars that was imposed on it since it lost the war.... and yet people forget the rise of Hitler was also due to the hardship imposed on the Germans after they lost WW1! Noone learn any lessons from these events and u guys think that war isnt a possibility when US send naval ships into the South China Sea provoking China?? The very act of such actions already bring up memories of British, Dutch, and Portuguese gunboats sailing up the Yangtze river over a century ago....

The notion of nuclear deterrent or mutual destruction will prevent world war 3 is not true. The crazy leader and the associates will miscalculate that they can hide in a secure place .. maybe in space and return to the earth after the war is over. History shows there were many crazy leaders in the past so it could happen again.
